Hitch/Bag setup

This weekend was my first time towing my new TT. I have a 2020 Silverado Trailboss 5.3 and a grand design 2670MK. I have a Reese 10k distribution hitch and firestone helper bags.

My tow back was through high country Wyoming and wind was noticeable. I also was curious how people setup their helper bags/weight distribution hitch? Do you run minimum air in the bags, setup the hitch and add weight to level? Setup pressure in the bags then weight distribution? Curious who has a method that works for them.

Thanks.

Air bags can actually mess up the weight distribution. I think most run minimal pressure in the bags after proper weight distribution.

I've run bags with 5ers and TT's. When using them with TT's the best way IMO is to load your truck up with the stuff you put in the bed, air up the bags to reset the truck rear to it's OEM ride height.
Then hitch up and use the WDH to set the front.
Never hitch up then air up. If you're using a friction based WDH you'll be relieving too much friction when airing up. Whats happening is you're lifting the rear up which takes less weight off the spring bars.
If you're not hauling a heavy load in the bed then bags are unnecessary.
Here's a video explaining how bags vs WDH works.

I currently have bags on my 2500 from towing a previous 5er. I run about 10 lbs in them when towing the TT.

Yup, good advice. The hitch should be carrying the weight, not the bags. If you air the bags after hitching then you are un-distributing the weight that the hitch was carrying and supporting it all on the bags. That puts that weight directly on the rear axle instead of distributing it to the front and trailer axles.

Bags are great for bed loads or 5th wheels but don't always work for Travel Trailers.
