The delrin pads that Equalizer sells for the bar perches make the hitch very quiet. Search Amazon for sway bracket jacket. About $20, takes about 50 miles before they get roughed up and provide the same sway control as without them.

Torquing the ball to 450 lb/ft

I bought this hitch used. It had only been used once or twice both from the looks of it and from what the seller told me. The ball was loose. They had not even tightened the nut enough to squeeze the lockwasher.

After a few tows, the ball and the cross bolts in the head, and any bolts on the trailer tongue brackets should all be checked.

I guess I need to rethink how I do this as I typically take the insert to my local car shop and my mechanic puts his biggest impact on it until it simply will not go any more.

After you retighten, put a mark/line on the nut and threads using a paint pen or colored nail polish. Then you can visually check if the nut has loosened.

Thanks again folks,
I didn’t know there was such a device called a “sway bracket jacket”. I bought a set. I also bought a “heavy duty” hitch stabilizer. I’m looking forward to giving them both a road test. Great idea about putting a paint mark on the ball hardware. Next time I have the hitch out I’m going to give it a good stripe.
Cheers
