With the TC out of lockup you increase fluid temperature, not a good thing. Other than starting from a dead stop the TC should be locked.
An unlocked TC is like slipping a clutch, when starting out.

It doesn't. Dyno numbers are peak and the software defueling is at low speeds and in low gears only....1-3rd, I believe. Dyno runs are typically done 1:1 which is 7th.

A short bed truck with the 160" wheelbase probably should stay around 12,000lbs. After all it is a SRW truck with a short bed to boot.

16" of wheelbase doesn't make that much of a difference. I'm at around 13k with my CCSB. It tows fine and passes fine. I wouldn't hesitate to go longer or heavier as long as I'm under payload.

I wouldn't think 16" would make much difference with a 5th wheel. TT more so. 5ers are pretty solid when being towed.

FWIW, I think that 16" of WB does make a noticeable difference in the stability of the tow though I won't put a limit on it. ....and I agree it's more of an issue for a TT compared to a 5er.
Most people love shortbox CC trucks; I'm not one of them. I prefer the long box for utility, the better ability to haul a full size truck camper, the increased clearance for a 5th wheel, etc. etc. I currently have 10 trucks; 9 long boxes and 1 shortbox. For the latest Super Duty, we went with a SC LB (164" WB) to get the utility of the 8' box without the 176" WB of the CC with 8' box (176" WB). I know I'm in the minority as I'll go ahead and guess that 90% of the HD trucks are CC SB's.
2 cents,
Dave

I'm with you. Why buy a 4 ton, 20' long behemoth that cannot load a 2"x4" with a closed tailgate when you can get the same truck in a 22' long version and put full sheets of plywood and other stuff and close the gate? I'd HATE using a slider hitch for the trailer, what a PITA. Get the proper truck.
20' or 22' long, both will take more practice to park than a Yaris, so just learn it.

I see lots of long bed extended cabs towing big campers. They have just about the same wheel base as the crew cab short beds.
I don't need or want a long bed. I don't mind putting the tail gate down to haul 8-10' boards. Anything longer than that, I'll use one of my trailers.

ford made a shortbed drw in the early 00s, theyre pretty rare and dodge still makes a megacab shortbed dually for some reason too. theyve made it for a long time but i dont see many of them and theres at least one company that will stretch the frame and put a long bed on it.
