I think I might have lingered outside in the distance watching to make sure he got things squared away before he took off. Not saying OP did anything wrong, but the older I get I see things like this as responsibilities to help prevent something tragic from happening. Also, he may have been impaired by alcohol, or even prescription drugs. Got to look out for each other. When I was much younger, I may not have said a word...

I am happy to help when it seems appropriate and find that a cheerful "want a hand with that?" sorts them out well. It does me good to be useful. I draw the line at helping someone who already knows everything and tells me so. Won't argue. Bye.

Another thing to "watch" is the guy that always runs right over as soon as a new rig rolls in and has to "show you" how to back in and park and setup. There always seems to be one.

I have done similar things a few times as the OP when it was a safety issue. Otherwise, I will usually tend to let things be.

One night pulling into a campground, only time I've arrived after dark, a couple guys near our space came over mentioned that I had a grinding brake on the trailer. I thanked him for the info. In the morning when I started to jack the trailer up to inspect the damage another nice guy came over and provided a little help. I do my own wheel bearing repack every year and can complete the job fine solo, but a little help was nice.
