I believe this to be true, Cummins is going to build a 6.7 litre gas engine. Not any specs on the engine but I saw it will be based off the diesel engine. Obviously different heads and stuff. I guess it makes some sense to try to use the same engine block. The engine will be used in the Ram 2500/3500 at least.

I personally hope they put a blower on it and produce gobs of power.

So in the future you will need to decide cummins disel or cummins gas engine.

He also thinks it could be more than simple economics as some believe the fuel prices today are solely based on.

Forced induction gas engines generally get terrible mileage under load, but it will be interesting to see what Cummins builds. This guy sees the diesel on it's way out as well, which as a diesel lover he's not happy about.

There was a rumor a few years ago that Ford was going to build a gas 7.3 Godzilla and Ram was going to build 7.0 Banshee gas engine. Only one made it to production.

With the current pressure on diesel engines I would not be surprised to see the end of diesel engines in 10 to 20 years. Scientists are even trying to tweek the fuel like the new 'Diesel Efficient'. I hope I am wrong about the end of the diesel engine because they sure pull good.

There is a lot of "talk" about this gas 6.7 on the Ram forums.
One thing is the block should be bullet proof.

The current Cummins 6.7 diesel engine block is that graphite infused iron. Ford builds the 2.7 Eco-Boost gas engine out of that same stuff. It is supposed to lighter and stronger.

I do no know of other engines that use a graphite infused engine block. Agree it should be extremely strong.

That Cummins is thinking about this puts my brain into high gear. Is diesel being phased out? What better indicator than this . Like oil companies investing in solar and wind.
The fellow in the video makes some solid points. I think the epa has strangled companies like cummins with impossible goals. States like ca are pushing electric. Diesel is no longer
more efficient simply because of the price per gallon difference. I own a ram diesel Dually.
But i liked the audio quality of 8 track tapes too..
Obsolete because its reached the technical limits of emissions??
That answer is above my pay grade.

.I suppose as long as they let me keep my truck and i can legally buy fuel for it ill hang on to it.. It will be interesting to see some real world specs for this new cummins gasser.. Id rather see an all electric hd truck with a 400 mi range towing. Dream dream dream..

Using the diesel block will be a lot of overkill for a gas engine. It probably won't be very cost effective.

During a tour of the Cummins engine plant in Columbus, Indiana, several years ago, they told us the 6.7 engine block was cast in Brazil, sent to Indiana for machining & assembly, then to Mexico for use in the Ram pickup. Some thought the block was cast in Brazil due to environmental issues rather than cost. I wonder if this was true, and where is the Ford 2.7 block cast?

There are already a crap ton of 5.9 and 8.3 natural gas/propane industrial/power generation engines out there.

Just saw a article from Car and Driver about this. For some reason I can't post the link. The engine will be in two versions and made by Stellantis in Mexico. The3.0 liter twin turbo is approximately 400hp and 450 pounds feet of torque. the high output version is rated at approximately 500 hp and 475 pounds feet of torque. Sorry I couldn't post a link to the article.

I think they are calling that the "Hurricane" engine. It will replace the Hemi.

As others stated they already have natural gas and LPG versions out there including the 6.7 straight six. They are used in school buses. What they are coming out with in 2024 is a gasoline version. This will be a first. It will be interesting if they boost it as they are only naturally aspirated currently making 240 HP and 560 torque off nat gas.

This looks more like a consolidation effort than a reason to wean HD trucks off diesel.
One size fits all. Just change the parameters to suit each vehicle.
