Although my hitch is currently set up properly, inevitably I will add tongue weight and the hitch will require additional adjustment. So here's my question. As it currently sits, there is "x" dimension between the WD/sway bars and the brackets on which they sit. Assuming I will need to increase this resting position distance in order to add weight distribution, which further increases that distance? Moving the bracket up one position or adding a washer to increase head angle?

If your bars are parallel with the trailer frame, then you just add a washer at a time and recheck. Adjust the brackets first until they're parallel. Then start adjusting with washers. If you're picky like I am, you can fine tune it with a thin washer.

I am picky. Like you. And you make a good point. Since the bars ARE already parallel to the brackets, then moving the bracket one spot, although not too big a deal, seems counterproductive when I can add a washer and not mess with the angle of the bars. Darned smart people!

The rule of thumb is if you need more than 6 washers then raise the brackets one hole and go back to 2 washers. Check and adjust as necessary. Once you get it dialed in it should not need further adjustment just because you added some weight. Getting the front axle of the truck's weight mostly restored and everything level is the trick. Sometimes it takes a couple different tries to get it right. When it's right the truck will ride better than when not towing.

Measure the trailer frame from the ground front and back. There should be less than 1 inch difference on flat level ground and truck should look level also. Trailer slightly nose down is better than slightly nose up.
