Only a few models of the Wrangler can tow 3,500#'s. The JK Unlimited Rubicon might with the right gearing. I know my '14 JKU Sahara Dragon will only tow 2,500 at the most.
The Gladiator can go 5,000#'s when properly equipped.

I’m surprised you’ve had issues with a half ton. I’m towing a Minnie plus with a Ram 1500 and have no issues. That being said I wouldn’t add another pound of trailer without stepping up the truck.

…..and of course the more basic question is-- not can you tow a trailer, it is--"can you stop a trailer???????? A short wheel-base vehicle will go end for end in a heart-beat--especially in wet conditions....no grandchildren will be involved in this "adventure" I hope?????

So seriously you all think it's not such a good idea to tow my 22ft tt with my JGC? I guess I'm in the market for a truck then...

Only on paper.... Tow capacity is a mythical number because you virtually can't get close to it before you exceed your carrying capacity.

There's two things you can't rely on in towing... Towing Capacity and Dry Weight. Both are numbers used by salesmen to mislead buyers

I did it to myself for the most part. Changed the oem lt tires to a set of trail HD’s (have ran on other trailers with good results) and it didn’t track for anything and was a whip the entire way. Anything smaller/ lighter we would have been in a bad way.

Put a set of lt tires back on it and it’s back to the way it was for the most part. Need to tweak my hitch again to get it back to how it was.

I have a friend with a Wrangler JK with the right axel ratio so he has a 3,500 lb towing capacity. He tows a trailer from time to time. I won't ride with him because I know he has control and stopping issues. I would never do it.

I have pulled my Jayco x17z with a Jeep Liberty.. Before anyone laughs, it does have a 5000 lb weight towing capacity. I never had any major problems towing other than going uphill and I come up to an 18 wheeled truck that slows me down. A quick downshift and the little 2.8 liter turbo charged diesel motor gets going and passed the truck. I have since upgraded to a 2003 f350 diesel, ohh you mean that OCYAJ thats tailgating me, thats our Jayco in the mirror

Jeep WJ and WK

I have towed my 4000 lb 22' boat and tandem axle trailer with each of the above 4.7L Jeep GC vehicles.

Both are rated for 6,500 lbs towing and 720 lbs tongue weight per the manual.

The biggest problem is easing into the departure mode since the boat weighs the same as the Jeeps.

I’m concerned for their safety. They want to go out west.
A good suicide rig.

Jeep is good just stay no better yet run as far as you can from the JEEP COMMANDER.

Had a Liberty was great, but the JEEP COMMANDER, which was trail-rated and had less than 5000 miles ran over a pillow 18" x 18" and it raped around the driveshaft riping out the wires and it stopped dead in its tracks on a HIGHWAY. Behind someone moving their household goods. Also hard to get the vehicle into the right tow gear and I don't see any on the road today. As for jeep overall if you can drive all day with your left hand aways on the wheel you should be fine with any jeep.

As for towing with a JEEP, I would just keep searching for something better as its a roll of the dice in any jeep.
