1st - anyone else see this commercial.

2nd - that looks like an accident waiting to happen.

In the commercial the driver takes his hands off the wheel and starts clapping along with other people in the truck.
Can’t do that in a Tesla. Other than short periods hands have to stay on the wheel or it puts you on the doghouse. (You get a few warnings). Plus autopilot and FSD disengage as soon as something is connected to the 7 pin connector so can’t tow with autopilot or FSD. Super cruise sounds nice.

Saw that commercial plus a woman in a Cadillac driving with no hands. Surprised GM would promote such things. The fine print says it works on only certain qualified roads. I can see someone driving hands free on a non-qualified road, hello ditch. I'm relative light at 18k# combined; no way would I take my hands off the wheel when driving. Plus, I like driving; paying big bucks for the gee-wiz stuff like this just escapes me.

I think it simply wonít engage on non mapped roads. I know very little about Super Cruise but from what i gather it works only on mapped geo fenced roads. Tesla uses the vision approach and works anywhere. But Iím told where Super Cruise works it actually works really well. Hoping to do a test drive someday.

Forgot to mention that our car reads speed limit signs and if it can recognize the numbers they display on the dash. Probably simple programming to make it do that. Standard sign matching to internal values if match display the matching speed limit.

Now - we had a brake light switch go out on the car and it would not start. That was crazy to try to debug the issue. The best way to describe it was results were unpredictable with various messages on the dash. None that told what was the problem. Anyway the dealer was able to fix it. Lucky the car was in the garage and not someplace inconvenient.

Does Super Cruise need cell connectivity or can it function off stored maps etc?

Thanks.

It's a dumb idea IMHO.
Apparently you have never tried it. I have driven thousands of miles with it, and it is safer than not using it.

Well I've driven almost 3 million miles without it and never crashed.
I'm good without it thanks.

I think it will eventually come down to insurance companies. If you have and use lane keeping and anti collision software your rate will be this much. If not it will be higher.

JMHO.

Agree with use the safety features. It most likely will not hurt and more likely be a Hugh benefit. I had a blind spot monitor on a 2015 car and I do believe it saved me a fender bender. Here in Florida at night people ride bicycles and they do not always have reflective gear. It is my fear I will be watching for car/truck traffic and hit a bicyclist. The predestination detection might save that from happening.

I like adaptive cruise and use it all the time when taking a long trip.

You might be good without it but we will all be safer once everyone has it ..... kind of like what they are telling us with the vaccines.

How many people will fall asleep using this feature. Better have one hell of an alarm, because I donít wake up easily.

The internal camera is supposed to watch for that. Not sure how it wakes you up.

That happens in Teslas too but one has to actually make an effort to cheat the safety features in order for it to continue driving. Usually weights on the steering wheel etc. At least a few times a hand resting on the wheel of the sleeping person was enough to keep it going. But I think with the latest software that wonít work as the AI watches for eye movements etc. Not really sure how itís done. Police have been able to get the vehicle stopped just by pulling in front of it and slowing down until the car is stopped. The car will keep a set distance to the vehicle in front if it right till itís stopped. A number of lives (of morons) have been saved this way. Including those in other vehicles. Iím not sure what criteria the Super Cruise facial monitoring watches for.
