Just saw super cruise in the GM Denali truck

A TV commercial is now running that shows a GM truck with 'Super Cruise' towing an Airstream Trailer.

1st - anyone else see this commercial.

2nd - that looks like an accident waiting to happen.

In the commercial the driver takes his hands off the wheel and starts clapping along with other people in the truck.

No worsethan letting a truck back a trailer in by itself.

I feel confident it will be safer than having people controlling the wheel. When they put it in the Sierra Denali HD along with the 505 hp Duramax I think I'll be on the list. Here is the 15 minute commercial:

My Escalade does not have it because of the chip shortage; my friend ordered one before me and got one just in time to get the Supercruise. Supercruise is the bees knees. I would trust it over any human driver if accident avoidance is your concern. It never blinks or checks its phone or plays with the radio; it watches the road 24/7/365 and has perfect reflexes.

We (DW and I) have a 2019 Nissan Altima with 'Pro Pilot Assit'. It works fairly good. Keyword is 'fairly'. I never had it fail but I don't want to test it either. We do need to keep our hands on the wheel with an ancient 2019 car. Pro Pilot Assist has adaptive cruise which we like. It will stop the car if needed.

It is nerve racking to try to test some of this technology. I like to watch YouTube videos of pedestrian detection systems. Some work and it is funny to watch the BMW hit the dummy pedestrian then stop. Probably that is what would happen in real life.[emoji23]

Here is the pedestrian detecting testing.

Skip to 2:40 to see the BMW crush the dummy.

SAE defines 6 levels of autonomous driving ranging from no automation …. level 0 to fully autonomous … level 5. Super-Cruise is a sophisticated level 2. Although it is hands off it has a camera watching the drivers eyes to ensure he is paying attention and can take control if needed.

I use the adaptive cruise on my F350 even when towing. My BMW has adaptive cruise, lane-keeping assist, and automatic lane changes. I use it all, as anything that reduces the workload on a long trip is beneficial.

I still have to drive the vehicles. If my BMW does not sense a hand in the wheel it will beep and shut off the lane-keeping assist. Periodically it will lose track of the lines on the road and I have to take over, or I have to preempt the assist to go through a construction zone or to avoid another car. The transition is pretty seamless.

One of my brothers is an OTR truck driver. The new trucks are getting this kind of technology. The fleets would not be paying for it if there was not enough value.

My car has pedestrian detection but I can not find a video on any testing and I do not have the equipment to test it. My 2017 accient truck has the blind spot monitor for both the truck and trailer. That works great.

Anyone actually see these safety features in action? Like did the truck apply brakes without input from you?

I have not, again difficult to test these features for the most part.

That sounds real safe.
It's a dumb idea IMHO.

Can it be turned off? Does it fight you for control if your purposely trying to run over something?
