Need new motor reccommendations

I have a 2013 gmc sierra 1500 with the 5.3 oil consumer flex fuel. I am at a point that i need to consider a new engine. I was thinking of swapping in a 6.0 for the little bit extra power and reliability over the 5.3

Thing is I am out of my depth for sourcing engines....it has been years for me and I am states away from where I used to get them. Does anyone have any RELIABLE sources for rebuilt engines that arent going to just grenade? I had gotten one for a friend and they sent out a rebuilt long block THAT WAS CRACKED. I am looking for reccommendations about good businesses online or within 300 miles of winchester Virginia.

Thanks in advance!

Try powertrain products inc. 888-842-0023
They offer a very good warranty also.

The last time I built an engine it was the only good thing left on the truck. About 30,000 miles later I realized every other mechanical system also needed rebuilt and the interior was also looking shabby. Decided it was cheaper to buy a newer truck.

I would think that there is far more involved than just swapping the engine out. If you live in a pollution control state, then all the engine and transmission computers would also need changing. I can think of two easier options:

1. Buy a truck that is more capable of towing the trailer.
2. Swap out the differential(s) for numerically higher one(s). This would require recalibrating the speedometer and hopefully not the engine/transmission computers.

Actually everything is the same....just an updated ecm tune as the transmission is controlled by it too. The entire drivetrain is the same as the 5.3 and the 6.0 in the 11 to 17 series is all the same....even the same motor mounts. As far as a more capable truck, sure, would love to get a new truck....but unless someone wants to buy it for me, that is out of the cards right now....esp since this truck is plenty capable for what we do....just a bad engine control system.....

So far the only thing wrong is the oil consumption. All other mechanicals check out as in great shape.

Are you sure everything is the same? If you were swapping for a 6.2 I would say, yes makes sense they are the same.

And in 2013 is engine swapping still a thing?

You can buy a lot of oil for the price and trouble of doing an engine swap.

Yeah the 5.3 and 6.0 are the same, verified with both independent mechanic and dealer tech. The truck is very sound, interior still like new, transmission fluid checks out like it is 2 years old...only thing is the engine.

here is the best advice you will get. if you put a reman motor in the first thing to do is get a tuner. and use it to disable the displacement on demand. that is why those motors use oil. also they have lifter problems that will not happen if DOD is disabled.
use a tuner and not a plug in that stays in the diagnostic port. 300 to 350 bucks. we use hypertech but others will do the job also.
