New F350 with no 5th wheel prep?

I visit the local Ford dealers website once a week or so to drool over new trucks. They just got an F350 SRW XLT LB in with everything I want EXCEPT a 5th wheel/goosneck prep. Why build a beast like that and not include that?

Agree. That option increases marketability, albeit increases the truck cost.

Well if you want it, have it worked into the deal.

The fifth wheel prep is an option except on the Limited models. It has to be requested as an option on the rest of the trims. It has been listed as a constraint off and on for some time now from what I've read on the Ford Super Duty forum. When I ordered my soon to be built F350 in February I was told not to include it if I wanted to see the truck anytime soon. I told them the only reason I need an F350 and not an F150 is because I have a fifth wheel. I did include it. After about 4 weeks of waiting I was told by my salesman that I should consider deleting it from my order. I was considering it when I got an email from Ford with a VIN and a build date. Glad I didn't listen to him. The guy that ordered that XLT probably did it so it would get built.

If you want to add the Ford puck system to a truck without it the bed has to be removed. That makes the $550 for it on the order form a bargain. The only other option is installing rails and/or something like the B&W Turnover. From what I'm seeing the fifth wheel prep is no longer a constraint.

It's a $78k truck. Adding a $550 5er prep package is nothing.

I think it has to do with the fact that way more F350 trucks do not tow a 5th wheel than do. Putting it on all trucks as a standard would be a waste.

Possibly it was built by a customer who couldn't complete the sale and the dealer is left with it.

How does that factor into the equation?

You are simply going to tell the dealer that if you want me to buy this truck, you have to install the factory 5th wheel prep package.

What am I missing?

I am an idiot and did not elaborate. My truck shopping is merely aspirational. I do not have permission from CINCLANTHOME to get a new truck, so I can't negotiate a deal. All I can do is talk to ya'll and dream.
