I was facing the same dilemma, I wanted to upgrade from my GMC Yukon Denali XL to a RAM 2500 HD mega cab. I live in NH and not a single dealer had one. In fact I had to travel 200+ mi to buy one. I purchased my truck at $1200 under MSRP and got more than I paid for the GMC. This dealer had 2500 7 mega cabs on their lot but only 2 3500. The trucks are out there, you just have to search and find them.

spotted a ford F250 lariat on the fomoco locator site a week ago that I was interested in until I checked it out on the dealer's lot and they had a 10,000$ add on fee called "Addendum". no thanks.

I was getting an oil change at the dealership and they were pestering me to buy my truck from me, I was kinda bored waiting so I let them make their pitch, they finally came up with an offer that was 5K over what I bought it for. I told the guy, ok but there will be a 10K market adjustment on your offer due to short supply....An hour of their time wasted and they were not amused, I said turn about is fair play fellas, since all your new trucks on the lot are marked up with the same adjustment.

So if your ever stuck at the dealership anytime soon before this crazy market changes and wanna have some fun, I highly recommend it...lol

I feel very fortunate to not only have gotten a truck but to have saved a bit off the MSRP! Ordered last Christmas just before the dealers started getting greedy. It was delivered 16 April.

This again.

HD is literally in the Name of the Truck model.

Type "Ford Heavy Duty", "Ram Heavy Duty" and "GM Heavy Duty" in to the google machine and sees what comes back. ( Hint, it will be literally "2021 Chevy Silverado HD" as the first response)

It's a weird hill on which to place a stake.

Two years ago I was all set to buy an F-550 and take it to BuckStop in E Oregon to be turned into a Super Single. They replace the duallies with single 41" split-rim milspecs and a SherpTek aluminum body topped by a Host Mammoth camper. THAT certainly would have been heavy duty by anyone's criteria. It would have been a virtual Earthroamer for 1/3 the price. My wife's health took a nose dive so we're now TT people as evidenced by the last photo. Not the worst fate.

That's called marketing, glad you like it and what influences your decisions. I've seen minivans with sport so I guess they equate to a sports car also. The category of the truck is light duty regardless of the badging. Here's another earth shattering revelation, google responds to searches based on their advertising. So apparently GM is paying more for you to get GM HD as the first response.

Mine says "heavy duty" right on it so it must be true.

"heavy duty" is common vernacular for 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks to differentiate them from their lighter duty brothers.......all are technically light duty trucks (as opposed to medium and heavy duty trucks, class 8 tractors, etc.) ....but we all know what we are talking about here, right?

I get it, you are defending the flag. Carry on, comrade, if you must.

But ... if you type the search terms I described into a protected private browser, you get the same results. And regarding google, I am not referring to ad results of course.

In any case, as the participants in the thread can attest, Th GM and Ram guys trucks say HD right on them. I am in a more elite club, because MINE says SUPER on it. SUPER is even more capable than Heavy!

I too find it hard to clarify when I talk about trucks. You have LTD - light duty trucks, MDT - medium duty trucks and HDT heavy duty trucks.

Light Duty Truck - any truck under F-550, GM 5500, and Ram 5500 or maybe 4500.

Medium Duty Trucks - Freightliner Sport Chassis, F-650, Ram 5500, GM 5500.

Heavy Duty Truck - all Tractor Trailers or Semi's. Typically twin dually axles in the back.

Now - even if a Ram 2500 has a badge that says Heavy Duty it is not a tractor.

I agree - for this forum it makes sense 99% of the talk is about Light Duty Trucks. Just go back this forum and you will see Medium Duty and Heavy Duty truck forums.Click image for larger version
