I bet they will sell like sweet tea on a hot summer day!

Ride is reported to be much like other pick-ups in the same "mid-sized" segment...reported to be a 5 link with coils in the rear.

And with well over 7,000lb towing capacity (Rubicon model) they be OK to tow lighter travel trailers, just fine. Then at the destination, will allow exploration the New Ranger and Colorado don't offer.

Plus it us a convertible pick-up!!

Safe travel

I am super excited about this vehicle. Then the DW reminded me that in Rubicon trim it costs as much as our F-350 6.7L...."pick one", she says.

Damnit....I LOVE driving this truck....

Yeah..if a Rubicon Unlimited (the 4door) is over $50K, the same trim Gladiator (to get the 4:10's for best GCWR) could be well over the mid-$60's

Point to remember, if comparing to other mid-size trucks, is that the Gladiator is a Jeep.
If Jeep wanted a truck to compare to the... oh say, Tacoma or Colorado, they would have built it similar to a Grand Cherokee.
People buy a Jeep Wrangler, because they want a Jeep Wrangler. It will be the same with the Gladiator... people will buy a Gladiator, because they want a Jeep Gladiator.

Now it will be interesting to see if the Gladiator will be popular enough to capture enough of the market for Jeep to keep it in their product offering.

Unless things have changed the 4:10s were standard with a stick, 3:73 was standard with the auto and 4.10 is optional. Just to be crystal clear.

No. Rubicons are 4.10s only. Part of the whole point.

At least that is what the auto-press is reporting...the 4:10's are standard on the Rubicon (only).

Don't know about special order optional 4:10's on the other trim lines, though.

Its tough to find the information even on the jeep website. Its not right out there like it used to be anyway. 4.10 is most likely the standard on the rubicon (again), 373 is probably the optional gearset amd 3.23 used to be the standard. I could NOT find a sport in 2015 with 3.73s and a limited slip rear within 500 miles of pittsburgh. Seemed the only way to get even a 373 with the ls was in the willys package.

Looks like now 4.10 is standard in the rubicon and 3.54 with no available limited slip is the setup for the sport and sport s. The rubicon gets a limited slip and a locker. The 3.54s arent bad depending on the trans, but good grief why not even an available limited slip?

For those of you who are not familiar with Jeeps:

The Rubicon model was introduced as a factory built hard core rock crawler in the '03 model year. It was a 2 door only and came with 4.10s stock with no other ratio available.

The JK came out in 07 and was built through model year 18. It was built in both 2 door and 4 door, and at some time during the run, 3.73s became available. As far as I know, 4.10s were always standard. My 18 JK Unlimited (4 dr for the un-Jeepers) Rubicon had 4.10s standard.

I now have a 18 JL 2 dr Sport with 3.45 gears. All JLs are 3.45s except Rubicons, which comes with 4.10s.

It appears the JT will be available with 4.10s in the Rubicon and 3.73s inthe other models.

If you are curious about how much interior space there is, go sit in a new JL 4 dr....it has the same interior dimentions as the JT. The JT will be a JLU on a longer frame with a pickup bed. Someone asked or commented on weight....my JK weighed 4400# empty, so my guess is a loaded JT Rubicon will be over 5000#.....but that is a guess.

As far as towing goes, I pulled a 6500# TT with my "sticker package" Rebel wit a 5.7 and 3.92 gears. I would not tow the same trailer with the 3.6 and 4.10s. It would be working way too hard for me.

This is from my real world experience however and I'm certain there are other "experts" who will know more than I do

Its important to note , that the press is reporting the JT Rubicon has a lower towing capacity then the regular models, so that would not be a supported combo. Likely due to suspension limitations, since its reported that all models come with D44's.

That said, I have no doubt the 3.6L and 4.10's would do just fine towing a 6500lb boat or utility trailer with Bricks. I have maxed out my old Frontier (4.0L, 3.69s) with a flat bed and a rock buggy "jeepish" and it was fine....

People don't seem to understand that RV's are just a whole different ball game when it comes to tongue weights, frontal area (wind resistance) and handling, and the towing specs really don't reflect that.

The Gladiator (JT) Rubicon is being reported to be rated to tow well over 7,000lb.

In the video by TFL (post #16 here), they even briefly mention changes to the grill and what is behind it to accommodate this increased capacity.

Isn't that towing capacity higher than all other models?

I may have gotten confused and only been thinking about the manual ones:

Quote:
For a little more context on towing, the top-tow configuration is a Gladiator Sport with an eight-speed automatic. The Gladiator Overland with a manual can pull 4,000 pounds while the automatic Overland is good for 6,000 pounds. As for the Rubicon, manual models can tow 4,500 pounds while automatic Rubi’s are good for 7000 pounds.
