We are buying a short bed truck and need some advice on buying a slider hitch. Looking for a 16k rated, manual type, basic unit. I don't need all of the "bells and whistles". After 6 yrs of towing a 5er, with a regular hitch,I can only think of 2 occasions where I would have needed a slider, had I been in a short bed. Good, safe, affordable?

Domie,

You're not going to like my advice. Don't buy a manual sliding hitch.

If you forget just once in the next __ (5, 10, 20?) years to manually slide your hitch and strike the truck with the trailer, you will wish that you had installed the expensive automatic hitch. I considered the $2500 or so to be pre-paid insurance.

Pulliam Enterprises Super-Glide hitch is the only automatic slider I know of. I recommend you buy one.

I had the Reese slider when I had my Ford SB. I did get into a situation once where I didn't slide the htich and I popped out the back window. I did like the automatic slider by pullrite but couldn't afford it.
