OK folks, in preparation for an upcoming retirement, I went and upgraded from a 2016 RAM 2500 to a 2019 Chevy 3500 DRW. Plan is to upgrade to a FT 5er in the next year, so I'm prepping. For the time being however, we will still be rolling with our current Outback TT, which comes in just under 10K lbs loaded. When pulling with the 2500, I of course used a WDH set-up with an anti-sway bar which worked great. My question is, now that I have the 3500 DRW, do I need to continue using the WDH bars and/or sway bar. I understand the duelly will be inherently more stable, but will it be enough on its own to leave the bars at home on our next trip? I don't mind hooking them up, but is it necessary? Thanks!

Use them one way and not the other way.
See if YOU notice a difference

Tow withoug and you'll know if you need them. With DRW i doubt you'll need them with that trailer.

You're 2019 won't even know your trailer is back there.

I towed a 6,500 travel trailer with my dually and no WD hitch. Just a 14,000lb ball mount in the hitch. Not problems at all. The wide back end of a dually is the best sway control you can have IMHO.

Planning to try doing this exact thing, but I am concerned that on my test drive without the WDH, it pulls fine. But then next time I take off for a multi-state drive and I hit crosswinds that my test drive didn't experience and that thing goes to wagging on me or something. Didn't know if anyone might have real world experience with a TT that long and heavy with a duelly. I will probably toss the bars in the truck when we head out and if I feel an issue on the road, I can always stop and put them on. I have to get 500 miles on the truck before I tow with it for break-in, then it recommends not towing over 50mph for the first 500 miles of towing. We will be heading to the Keys from NC bout two weeks into Feb, I've gotta get out and get some miles on this thing quick, lol.

I use a WDH with my 7800 lb dry ORV 24RKS and my F350 DRW for the antisway only—with the factory hitch my truck never requires WDH.

I could generally pull with no sway dampening on nice days but I’m really appreciative of it on crosswind days. I’d hate to see what it was like in 50mph crosswinds on I20 or I40...ouch.

You have the hitch already so go ahead and keep using it. Very much to gain for very little cost.

I appreciate it, this is kinda the direction I was thinking. Just looking for reinforcement since I'm a newby to the DRW thing.

No worries, I just changed the oil the second time in mine— towed 7000 miles in the first year.

Was thinking it wouldn't hurt to run it. Only takes a couple seconds to put on. Just trying to get a feel for it. Looking forward to hitting the road with it, only have about 80 miles on the truck at this point. Working all weekend, can't get out and drive the thing.

Yeah, having to earn a living puts a cramp in your fun time.

Been there, done that. But it earned me a comfortable retirement lifestyle, so I'm glad I stuck it out.

I towed an 8,500lb 29’ tt for five years with a 2006 Silverado 3500 dually. Never needed the WDH or sway control. Even when I had to make a hard swerve to avoid an idiot that tried to merge into my front fender entering an interstate. I had the cruise set on 74, truck and trailer never missed a beat.
