I bought my 2020 DRW and big Fiver right when the lock downs started and the stock market had just crashed and the dealers were looking to move product before the imminent depression. I was hoping I had not made a huge mistake and boy does it look like I got lucky on timing.
I wish you all luck getting your new trucks, the new trucks are just awesome.

I didn't do as good as you, but I bought my 1/2 ton Ram Limited when things went south and the dealers were panicking. After 1 1/2 yrs and 27000 miles, they are offering me $6000 more than I paid for it. It really brings the price of a 1 ton more in line, still a lot, but more in line.

I have been HD truck shopping for months. slim pickins. from ram you can get the lowest trim levels and you can get the dsl models with plenty of options. just nothing in between. looked at a new ford 250 lariat with 7.3 motor friday. the dealer had 10,000$ add-on called "addendum". talked to sales manager at probably the largest metro area chevy dealer here last week and he said they often have up to 300 trucks on the lot and currently have 30. he said could order but with no incentives and could take 3-4 months..no guaranteeing anything. the 30 they have were some dbl. cabs and 2wd and a cpl. loaded up dsl for upper 70's. something seems fishy to me that this "chip shortage" has gone on so long. you can buy tv's microwaves laptops all day long but not an hd truck. just my own take on it.

I read an article that said the auto industry uses old technology chips. This makes sense since new better (faster, less electricity) chips are being delivered every year. Heck it is not easy keeping up with technology. Makes sense since the auto will make the same generation of vehicle for about 5 years before it is redesigned. Not sure who is making old chips or where they can buy old chips. The new redesigned vehicles probably the newest chips.
I am thinking this will be an on going issue because there are more and more chips used in the modern vehicles.
We have a 2019 vehicle that we could not start. It is unlike any other vehicle I have had that would not start. An electrical switch was bad. The car would not shift out of park and the power button did nothing.

We ordered a F-250 late August and the order was confirmed September 1st. The pickup was built October 8th and is currently being shipped rail to Oregon. The expected delivery should be no later than early November. All things considered, the process has been faster than expected. No complaints here.

I had to take my 1/2 ton to the dealership yesterday. Stopped to talk to my salesman who had the day off. They looked up my order, nothing has changed, however another 1 ton which they had ordered 5 days prior to mine is scheduled to come off the line and begin its journey north out of Mexico on November 3rd. They are not sure how long the journey will take. Depends on if it was a dually or not. Duallies cant be shipped by train evidently. Mine is a single wheel. Hoping for an early arrival.

The one I was told would be at the dealer Oct. 6th is still not there. I am being told that it is in Denver awaiting a transport truck to haul it to Delta, Co. 290 miles away.

Gm 1 tons are built in flint Michigan, not Mexico. 1/2 ton can come from Mexico or possibly Canada.

Having asked the question, I wanted to come back and let you know how it's looking. The local RAM dealer is telling me they expect a delivery time of 10-12 weeks on a new 3500 diesel. I will likely get the order placed tomorrow and we will see how it plays out. I just hope its not 10 and 12 weeks.... I'll post again when I actually get the truck.... someday....

Good luck. I ordered a F-150 back in May... Last time I checked, it still isn't scheduled. I suspect the chip needed to build the truck is somewhere waiting on a ship near LA.

Trucks are disappearing from my local dealers. My local Ram dealers has zero trucks...not even used. They do however have a huge empty space where trucks used to be.
Same for my local Chevy dealer - no trucks at all.
My local Ford dealer has about 10 F-150's and that is it.
All my local dealers have big empty space where their trucks used to be.
I do not know how the sales people are surviving.

We use the Broadcom chips in some things that we produce and were told that the current backlog goes well into 2022 before we would ever hope to see any.... and what we build takes priority over trucks. We shall see.
As for how dealers are staying afloat... they're buying up as many used vehicles as they can. I've been offered $10k more than I paid for my 3500 3 years ago if I'd sell it to local dealers. I refuse. We did, however, sell them back our 2019 Charger R/T. We made a nice $3k profit on it. We thought there was some catch until they wrote us a check on the spot.

My sales rep texted me yesterday. No change in the status. It has only been on order for 2 weeks, so not surprised. Was nice that the rep reached out to me and not me chasing him down.
