Monahmat - thanks for verify the 10 speed is available with the 6.2 and F-350. I need to test drive a F-350 with the 6.2 gas engine if I can find one.

My test drive of the 2020 F-250 6.7 diesel really blew my mind. That truck was smoother and way way more powerful than my 2017 F-250 6.2 gas. I had a 2012 6.7 diesel superduty truck but it was rough compared to the 2020 superduty diesel and not as powerful.

To the OP - a 10 speed transmission imho is a big deal. A front camera is another big deal. The back-up camera I think is standard.

Not sure what options are on your mid sized truck but with a bigger truck that front camera will allow you to park without hitting the little Miada that went out if site over your hood a long time ago.

For myself, I would always get a long bed truck, and I really have no idea why you'd want a double cab for the 2019 vs a crew cab. Short beds suck.
The double cab (vs. crew) should give me more room in the garage and my 2 toddlers won't need a ton of leg room for another 10+ years.

People will probably chime in here saying you can stick a single car seat in the center seat but its not easy and doesn't seem feasible with 2 kids.
Mine are 19 months and 3-and-a-half...both boys. They are both in convertible front-facing seats at this point so shouldn't be an issue with the double cab.

People with limited garage clearance, easier to park, people that don't haul around friends or kids in the back. Remember the Big 3 made "extended cabs" for years and millions of people bought them and got along just fine, even with families.

My dad had an extended cab 96 chevy 1/2 ton. I understand the market for those, but if youre going to get 4 doors, i just dont get why anyone would want the short cab. Its six inches difference in leg room, to most people thats pretty valuable real estate.

Is there a reason you are jumping from a little mid sized truck to a 2500 series truck? Why not jump to a full sized 150/1500 series truck. At your elevation the top truck would be a Ford F-150 3.5 Eco-Boost to compress that thin air.

The 150/1500 series truck make great daily drivers where the 250/2500 series trucks do not.

I want to be able to rent and haul a wide range of towable trailers including 5th wheels. I only go into work 3 days a week and I can use my wife's Explorer for other quick errands around town.

I've read many stories on here about owners quickly maxing out their 150/1500 series trucks on payload once they load up all their camping gear and towing even a modest size travel trailer. Plus, I feel like a 2500 would be much more stable on the highway passing big- rigs and with the high winds we have here out west.

All that is true about 150/1500 series trucks. If you want to tow a wide range of trailers then a 350/3500 truck would be best. 250/2500 series trucks can only tow small 5th wheels while 350/3500 trucks can tow mid sized 5th wheels.

As you may know when towing a 5th wheel it is easy to put 3,000 lbs of weight on the truck. Also a 250/2500 series trucks will have a GVWR of 10,000lbs usually and 350/3500 series trucks will have a GVWR of 11,500 - 12,000 lbs.

2020 trucks are skewing this standard some, for example the GM 2500 can have a higher than 10,000 GVWR.

The 350/3500 SRW trucks are the exact same size as the 250/2500 trucks and will ride about the same. A 350/3500 truck will have extra heavy duty springs and a larger axle capacity rear axle.

The downside of a GM 3500 series gas truck is it will have just a 6 speed transmission while both Ford and Ram will have 10 speed and 8 speed respectively.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. Yes, the only thing holding me back about the new 2500 is the 6-speed transmission that a few people are complaining about it not being the right number of gears for the gas engine.

I am lucky I like Ford trucks and they offer a new 7.3 litre gas engine and new 10 speed transmission. That will probably be my next truck. If GM offered a 10 speed it would then be more of a toss-up.

Ford changed a few things on their 2020 superduty. The truck rides better and steers easier.

GM is still waxing their frames. At least the early 2020 that I looked at had a waxed frame. I agree, this is not the best way to prevent rust.

I never saw a cracked GM frame yet but have seen the other 2 break. Electroplating frames seems great on paper and in theory but the real test will be us in the rust belt, in about 5-7 years. I am certain all 3 will eventually rust if left untreated with additional rustproofing.

I haven't seen a rusted out GM frame unless it was 15+ years old or a salt spreader plow truck.

Well, I now understand you want to tow all sorts of stuff, from a TT to a 5th wheel?

What size and weight 5th wheel are you thinking of hauling? A 6.0 GM with a 6 speed 6L90 will haul 10 000 lbs pretty easily. Sure, a diesel will do it easier up hills and such, but I see that, like me, you won't be hauling 365 days a year.

I haul 13 000lb with mine and have driven much of North America and up to 12 000' elevations.
