Newer Michelin tire cheaper?

I'm thinking about changing the P rated tires on my Yukon to LT rated. Looking at the Michelin LTX M/S and M/S2. It appears that the M/S is the newer version. Why would it be less expensive? It claims to be sturdier with more tread and greater load capacity.

And although some sites report a diameter of 31.9 (same as my current Continental P tire) the Michelin site indicates a diameter of 32.2. Is this going to mess with my speedometer?

Yes a slight difference due to the diameter change.

That tire difference will make a 1% error in your speedometer. About 0.5 mph at 65mph.

Didn't the Defender replace the LTX line? The newer ones still have LTX on the tire behind the Defender name. Be sure they aren't old tires if without the Defender designation. Call Michelin or visit their website to be sure. We needed to replace a 275/70R16 a year or 2 ago and unless it was already branded as a Defender.

I had the LTX M/S tires on my AWD Honda Ridgeline. They were the best factory tires I ever had. They were quiet and with great traction.

I would agree with making sure they are new tires. The LTX M/S2 replaced the 1st generation LTX M/S several years ago I thought. And I agree I saw 'Defender' stamped on the LTX M/S2 tires as the latest interation of the tire.
