Newly ordered 2019 F350 dually

Have just ordered a 2019 F350 dually equipped the way I want it. My question is will adding airbags improve the ride quality when towing a 43 ft. 5th wheel weighing 16,500 lbs with a hitch weight around 3000 lbs? I already have a Trailer Saver airbag 5th hitch that I have in the 2016 F350 dually that I am trading. TIA

You will like the new dually because it has a much better frame that makes it feel more solid.

I would try it 1st without airbags to see how much it squats. You can always add add bags to fix squatting later if needed. I would add that air bags on the truck with air bags on the hitch would improve the ride a little bit imho. But again, try it first. It should ride better than the 2016.

I have a 17 F-350 daully 4x4 pulling a 13 K lb 5th wheel. 2500 lbs of Hitch weight. I do have a B&W companion with a rotoflex pin box. It levels the truck out. Keep your rear tires a 65psi like the door tag says. I went to 80 psi. It rode terrible. Played with pressures went back to 65 psi. No air bags needed. Front tires are at 75 psi.

I just drove a '19 and it rode better than my 16 F250. They have really improved them with the latest updates.

I just wonder how much better they can make trucks. Sure the 7.3 Godzilla engine will be a big improvement over the 6.2 Boss engine as for power but probably not longevity.

Diesel engines really do not need more power but they can work on more reliable emissions system.

My 2012 Superduty was a good truck but I can tell my 2017 is more solid.

Hot Shot truckers will enjoy the better trucks more than your average RV'er.

Thank you guys for all the encouraging words. Will try first without adding bags to see how the ride is. Can hardly contain myself waiting for this baby to come home!

Well a 3,000# pin should not squat a 2019 F350 DRW much, my feeling is once loaded that pin will be closer to 4,000#. That could squat it a bit, but if I were you I would wait to see just how it sets and rides before making changes.

I have a 2107 F350 dually with a 3800 lb pin weight and my rig runs level with no air bags.

With a 7,640 lbs. payload rating, if it squats give it back.

don't think a 2019 DRW 6.7 PS with a nice set of options will come up with a payload sticker even within 1,000# more like a 6,000# payload or less.

Ford is the worst for payload ratings. They will build a truck that no one wants and it will have a 7,500lb payload. A single cab dually will have this high payload. The average Ford dually has a 5,500lb. payload.

Or worse yet in the F-150 they advertise a 2,800(ish) payload. So they will build a special F-150 with a thicker frame HDPP option that is one in 10,000 F-150's. The average F-150 has a 1,600 payload.

But back to the OP's truck.

Your 2019 F-350 dually will be a great truck. It will have a 3" receiver on the hitch and a rock solid frame. If you drive your 2016 to trade in on the 2019 you will notice a big improvement on the driving dynamics immediately. Your 2016 was no slouch but the 2019 is a much better truck. I went from a 2012 to 2017 and noticed a big improvement. Look at the hitch on your 2016 from underneath then look at the same hitch on your 2019. Oh, if you also tow a boat the new hitch might be too thick for the safety chain hooks like I ran into. Lol, you will also need two reducers to go from 3" to 2" so lining up the pin will be extra difficult in a good way.

Forgot to mention Congratulations on the new Truck!
We will be expecting several pictures once the new Truck arrives.

Is that right. If you wanted to, you could look at the payload specs on the Ford website for the truck.

OP didn't say what options he ordered. If it were me towing that much weight, I'd option it out for max payload and towing. BTW, the F-450 has the same max payload rating.

I'm not sure if they are 'bad'. Ford (and not limited to) start with a max payload of the vehicle and when the customer or dealer orders a configuration like 4X4 and dual cab, that subtracts from the max payload because those configurations add weight to the vehicle. It is the same with any other vehicle, but some manufactures are not up front and don't even show payload specs. You have to subtract the advertised curb weight from the gross weight.
