I tow a Wildwood 26RKS which scales out at 8,000# loaded with my '13 F150 Eco. It does a good job of towing through the western mountains and after several adjustments of my Equal-i-zer with 10K bars it has virtually no sway or push from semi's.

Of course I do have Max tow AND HD Payload.

That's a rare bird, with the HD Payload Pkg (HDPP). Congrats on being smart enough to have it on tow vehicle for any TT that weighs more than about 6,000 pounds when wet and loaded for a camping trip.

I didn't order HDPP because for my 2012 model year it included weird 7-lug wheels, and I didn't order Max tow because it included 3.73 axle ratio. With 20/20 hindsight I now know that was a mistake. I would probably never replace the wheels on an HDPP Lariat, and folks with 3.73 axle ratio get about the same MPG as I get with my 3.15.

Live and learn.

The rules changed with the 2015 model year. Normal - but heavier duty - 18" 6-lug wheels are now standard on HDPP XLTs and Lariats, and are available on XL trim level. Max tow no longer includes the tow mirrors, but still includes the integrated trailer brake controller (ITBC) on all except the base XL trim. Tow mirrors are now a stand-alone option on all trim levels, but you have to be awake enough to order them. The tow mirrors include power folding and power telescoping on the fancier trim F-150s.

Pulling about the same load with our 150 KR, 3:55 gear and the 5.4L. I'm within specs but not by far, it's just me n missus most of the time, but if I pulled too many long hills where we go I'd trade up to a 250 and probably a diesel. I had a 97 DRW and Crew with the 7.3 and it was the best pulling truck I have ever owned. My issue there is that I always garage my vehicles and I can't get a 250 in the garage, so I am making the 150 work. I do not feel unsafe as some on here try to make us 150 guys feel, braking is great, I have a very capable hitch set up properly, and I watch weights like a hawk and never exceed 62-3mph, I just am underpowered at times. I can drop a gear and pull the hills when needed would just love to have some more torque muscle at times versus using rpm.

May I add my 1 cents. Towed our 31' TT with our '13 F-150 HD Ecoboost on 3 or 4 trips. One 4500 mile excursion and it wasn't the funnest trip we had. Oh the F-150 pull the TT 100% better than our '04 6.0 F-250 did but it could have been a more enjoyable ride. If there was any breeze from either side or from the front, that trailer knew it + semi's made their impression on the truck & TT. I worn out our Centerline hitch & reciever trying to get it dialed in (don't know if I ever did). ,Aftr that long trip, DW decided we needed to downgrade (mainly to fit into our favorite FSCG's + the tail wagging the dog helped) so we went with a little 5er. Best move we ever made. Breezes don't effect us, but we can feel a micro-burst like all rigs and semi's have no effect on the rig now. This 5er pulls like a dream.....a match made in heaven. Also the MPG increased from bout 8.5 pulling that sail (TT) to almost 10.5 pulling the 5er. So you might really consider the length

Last time I looked, the Max Tow and the RV package was about $2800. Add the cost of the 3.5 Ecoboost, a Supercrew and XLT or Lariat interiors and the price is getting up there. The best Ford sales incentives are on the 2.7 Ecoboost.

Has anyone priced a F250 XLT/Lariat, the standard 6.2 engine, crewcab with the RV package lately? I just wonder the cost differential after current sales incentive programs vs. a tricked out 1/2 ton equipped to tow its heaviest.

Bamaman - I think you are right. The F-250 gas truck is cheaper than a tricked out F-150.

Problem is people see a 2 instead of a 1 and think it's too big when in fact the new F250 uses the same cab as the F150. Peoples perception of things sometimes is funny.

Incentives change based on supply vs. demand, so I won't attempt to include incentives. But here are the two trucks based on MSRP as of 3 Oct 2017:

MSRP

$43845 2018 F-150 SuperCrew. 157" wheelbase. Lariat 500A trim
$1,600 3.5L EcoBoost engine
$1,195 Max trailer tow pkg
$250 tow mirrors
$175 LED spotlights (req'd to get tow mirrors)
$1,695 Heavy duty payload pkg
$275 reverse sensensing system
$1,295 delivery
-----------------
$50,330 Sticker price
===============

Your 2017 Super Duty
⦁ $47,635 Base MSRP
⦁ $550 Total of Options
⦁ $1,295 Destination Charges
⦁ $49,480 Total MSRP (sticker price)
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
⦁ $47,635 2017 Ford F-250 LARIAT Crew Cab, 6 3/4', 6.2L 2 Valve Gas SOHC EFI NA V8 (Flex-Fuel) Engine, TorqShift®-G 6-Speed SelectShift® Automatic w/6.2L, 3.73 Electronic Locking Axle Ratio, 4X2, SRW
⦁ $160 Camper Package
⦁ $0 Rear View Camera - Tailgate
⦁ $0 PowerScope® Telescoping Trailer Tow Mirrors
⦁ $390 3.73 Electronic Locking Axle Ratio
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

So yes, with discipline you can build a 2017 F-250 Lariat comparable to a 2018 F-150 HDPP Lariat with sticker price a few bucks less than the F-150. If you wait until Ford.com updates their website with the 2018 SuperDuty prices, then the sticker prices will probably be very close. But in the real world, nobody is going to order an F-250 Lariat with only those options. There are so many nice options available for the F-250 that nobody has the discipline to order the bare-bones F-250 above. Except fleet managers who don't have to drive the ordered truck. And they won't even order the Lariat, they'll order the XL with plastic seats. But the F-150 HDPP doesn't have many options. No shorty bed, no luxury trim. Base Lariat trim is as fancy as it gets. The F-250 doesn't have any restrictions as to the options you can order and still have a competent tow vehicle. You want King Ranch or Platinum trim? It's available on the F-250 but not on the F-150 HDPP.

The way I read this, trying to do a fair comparison the F-250 Lariart cost approx $3,800 more than the F-150 Lariart.

But by the time you add things to the F-150 Lariat, like all the towing options it gets a lot closer the same cost.

I guess the question that everyone needs to ask, is a F-250 more valuable to them than a F-150 plus approx $1,500 more.

If I had to tow a trailer that weighed over 5,000lbs. I would pick the F-250 every time, just because it would be a much easier drive.
