I have a GearDeck hitch mounted covered carrier and it works great. The wiring is bundled then connects to a 4 pin plug, but the problem is that the 18 gauge wires are exposed for about a half inch, seems like they would get fatigued with the constant bending at this weak point and eventually fail. So I was thinking about garden hoses and how the last 4” before the connector is usually reinforced with an extra rubber or plastic or even spring sleeve to ensure there is no tension there. Anyone know of a product that can be used, or made to help? I’m thinking of something that snaps on the plug and then is secured to the cable, about 4” long. See photo.

I can't tell what is beyond your thumb in your picture. Could you use some electrical tape from the connector back onto the conductor, then cover that with some heat shrink tubing?

Shouldn't be an issue. If anything the UV and weathering would be more of a factor IMHO. Not saying that the wires won't eventually require attention, just that it'll take many thousands of miles to get to that point.

But if you must, then hot glue a wire support (like a splint) to the plug and heat shrink it to the wire loom.
