Question Premium HD 5th Wheel Hitch

Hello,

New to 5th wheels, but not RVing and doing a fair amount of research but nothing beats experience, hence the reason I am asking for your help.

I just ordered a 37’ New Horizons Majestic with GVWR of about 24,000 lbs and a pin weight of about 4,200 lbs.

I will pulling the RV with a 2022 RAM 3500 Long Bed, DRW & HO Cummins, bed is prepped for a hitch. The vehicle is up to the task.

So with a premium RV & Truck, what is a premium hitch that will provide the best performance with the least amount of chucking, etc?

Thanks in advance for your input!

You will need to pick a 5th wheel hitch that will fit the puck system of your Ram. What does Ram recommend. When I bought a F-450 with the factory 5th wheel prep option back in 2012 I only had one option. That was the Reese Elite hitch that fit the puck system perfectly.

Now hitch manufacturers are building hitches to fit the various Ram, Ford, GM patterns. You will need to make sure you buy the correct hitch or it will not fit.

New Horizons should have an option for a non-chucking king pin that they can put on their 5th wheel.

In a nut shell there are air bladders on 5th wheel hitches or air bladders or rubber on the king pins of the 5th wheel.

Congrats on your rig.

I would go with either one.

Thank you for the recommendations! Very much appreciated.

I watched an intriguing video on YouTube about the Comfort Ride 308, which allegedly is now manufacturers by Roadmaster but I can’t find it anywhere so I assume they are no longer being manufactured?

Thanks, again, for the PDF. I cannot find a Comfort Ride website or the unit for sale on-line anywhere so I am not certain it is still available…. It could be marketed under a different name I suppose. I did find a document that stated it was now being manufactured by Roadmaster but as you stated, no evidence of the same on their website…. Too bad, looks like a good option…

Chrysler sells a hitch under the Mopar name. I'm not certain but I think it may be made by Curt. I recall reading that somewhere. You may be able to swing a deal from the dealer for it.

Edit: Yes, Curt...... https://www.etrailer.com/question-325990.html

Mopar 82214743AB $1057 HERE $1250 MSRP

Curt Q25 (same hitch) $1344 At Etrailer $1997 MSRP

Of course shipping can make all the difference. Check with your dealer.

Charles

Simple answer: Trailer Saver BD5. 29k, 5k pin. 3 air bags combined with 4 shock absorbers. Holland Binkley head. Fits your factory pucks. American made and of the highest quality. Protect your truck and trailer.

I second the Trailer Saver . I have had a BD 3 since 2013 l wouldn’t trade one for any non airside 5th wheel out there . I have a Moryde king pin Zero chucking and jerking . You can watch the front of your trailer just riding smoothly over these wonderful roads we have in some areas . Yours definitely will need a BD 5 . Pricy but so was your trailer . Great support . They have a good video also .

Another vote for the Trailer Saver. I have the TS3 since I went with the rails in the bed instead of the puck system. It's the second TS3 I have had and it is worth the money.

I will add my endorsement of the Trailer Saver. I had a BD3 for 6 years and they make a good hitch that does what they say it will do. Just a thought but I read sometime back that NH was considering offering the Gen-Y hitch. Whether or not they went thru with it I don't know. If so then all you would need is a goose neck ball in the bed of your truck.

Thank you everyone for the recommendations. Based on your input and others participating in Facebook groups, the clear choice appears to the BD5 from TrailerSaver. Thanks again for the input!

HENSLEY BD5 or TS3 , its a air ride hitch. I have the BD5 and Morride pinbox that works very good! Call Hensley and speak to sales dept , they can add a 12 volt compressor to the hitch and its very low cost if you can talk them into it.... Wink wink

Comfort ride also offers a hitch that is well built.
