Puck Systems

Are puck systems universal between manufactures? Specifically, will a hitch from a Ford puck system fit a RAM?

Thanks!

No they are not standard. A Reese Elite 5th wheel hitch is made for Ford. It will not fit in a Ram.

Thank you both. I see now that RAM, Ford, and GM all have different dimensions.

Also be aware that a the dimension change when the truck is redesigned. A 5th wheel hitch that fits an older Ram will not fit in a newer Ram. The same for the other trucks I believe.

There are many manufacturers that make 5th wheel hitches that fit the puck system of certain trucks. That will take research to figure which hitches fit which trucks.

I had the puck system in my Ford. I liked it and it worked really well. It made a solid connection. The hitch was easy to see and line up.

The gooseneck connection is standard. By this you can use any gooseneck ball with any truck.

Many people do not want a big, heavy, clumsy standard 5th wheel hitch in their truck bed. Typically it is a two man job to install or remove the hitch. Sure you can take them apart but I never did this.

These people opt for some sort of gooseneck connection. They will use either the Anderson Ultimate hitch set-up or use a Reese Goosebox set-up or use the B&W 5th wheel hitch set-up. All three make use of a gooseneck ball. B&W makes a nifty 'Turn Over Ball'.

One other thing - if you want the 5th wheel prep package it is best to order it or find a truck that has it. Having it installed after market is expensive. Ford has a factory option that was $500 for the 5th wheel prep package. The after market parts are $600 from Ford to add it later.

Good luck

I have the Curt adapter frame for my OE GM puck system. IIRC it will fit the Ford puck system but you change the way it is assembled since the Ford pucks are slightly wider. The Ram puck system was completely different.

simple answer NO they are not all the same.

I can tell you GM change the locations in 2020 so the older puck hitch will not fit newer trucks.

I also can tell you that Hensley BD5 Ford hitch is the same as the newer GM with the outside legs unbolted and flipped so the puck mounts are facing in it will fit 2020+ GM trucks . Please confirm this with Hensley this may or may not be true.
