Ready to purchase new travel trailer, need advice.
I am a single guy looking at buying a new travel trailer. New to towing and close to retirement. Below I worked up a chart of what I am looking at and would like your thoughts on this purchase, is this a safe setup?
Trailer: Forest River RPOD M-179
TV : 2016 Ford F-150, 4X4, SCAB, XLT, 301A, 2.7L ECB, 3.55. Tow package w/trailer brake control (not max. tow package).
Trailer:
Dry weight - 2649
Carrying Capacity - 1136
Weight of water - 36 gal X 8#/gal = 288
WD Hitch - 300
GRVW - 4335
Tonque weight (4335 X .13) - 563.55
Tow vehicle:
load capacity 1600
Tongue weight (sub) -564
residual load capacity -1036

On the surface, looks fine. No weight issues. Should tow easy behind your 150.

You could tow twice that much trailer easily and have a large safety margin. No problem with that one.

Keep it at 50 and you will be fine. Funny how trucks are rated at gross weight tows, but then when you actually drive the thing with something on the back it feels so different that folks freak out. It will feel like a pig when you are towing, so go slow and use your gears. yes, automatics have gears.... Then you will have no problems and it will be safe. Tow at 75 and it is just a matter of time....

Exc combo. Those R-Pods are very trendy. It seems like every time we go camping we see 1-3 of them.
Your truck will be a perfect match and then some for that Pod.

You'd be fine with that engine combination in the F150.
But if you ever trade up to a larger travel trailer, you'd be unable to handle it.
Have you considered going with the 3.5 Ecoboost and the Maximum weight package to go along with your Trailer Towing Package? That's the combo that gets the new F150 almost as strong handling heavy weights as the F250. And it'd be a great combination for present AND future towing needs.
