Reese 5th wheel hitch problem

I have a Reese Pro15k hitch that has the retractable latch bar. The latchbar does not fully retract when I hitch and unhitch. It doesn't cause any problems when I hitch my 5th wheel but sometimes when I unhitch, the hitch pin gets stuck because the latch bar doesn't fully retract. I'm able to get it unstuck by pulling the handle further. I believe it is the spring that is causing the problem and I have been unsuccessful to trying to find the replacement part. If anyone has that same hitch and has the same problem, please let me know.

Welcome aboard.
Nice to have you with us.

I find that if I don't back up slightly before pulling the release, it will stick and be impossible to release.
Hope this helps.

If the mechanism works ok unhitched, it sounds like you have some binding when unhitching.
Backing up the truck can help relieve the binding.
Adjusting the RV height can also help.

After setting wheel chocks (1st on/Last off) place truck in reverse and ease it back
Set parking brake/turn truck off and then pull hitch hand out/lock in place

I always chocked the wheels then put the truck in netrual to release any tension on the jaw. The truck usually moved back another inch or two. Then put the truck in park and turn it off. That usually did the trick for my Reese Elite hitch.

I do the same ...but your hitch and mine are 'Jaw' not 'Bar' like the OPs

My other hitch was a 'bar' and had to do the Reverse and take pressure off the bar to release easier
