Retirement truck

Looking at purchasing a new truck and trailer (Grand Design 150 reflection 295RL) (11,000 lbs GWVR, 31’-9” length, tongue weight 1,400 lbs. Looking to purchase a properly equipped Ford - F250/350 6.7 diesel, (prefer a Crew Cab with a 6.5’ bed ).
What needs to be on the “got to have check list”, axle ratio, regular or high capacity towing, etc.. for optimum towing capabilities. This will be my fourth and last trailer, not planning anything larger.

I would like the Lariat trim package with the Lariat Ultimate Package and Bliss package the Lighting package and Camera package. I also like the FX-4 package to give you a locking rear differential if you ever need it.

I believe the 2021 with the 10 speed will have 3:55 gears with no other option. But if there is an option for 3:73 gears get that.

Do yourself a big favor and get the F350 for the larger payload on the diesel.

I agree with Russ ^^^^ 100%. Money difference between the F250 and the F350, when equipped the same, is very minimal and the extra payload capabilities with the F350 will leave you room to carry along probably anything extra you want to take along.....or even a larger trailer if you would happen to go that direction at some point in the future.

I agree F350. Get the trailer mounted camera and TPMS option. I love mine. Also the cameras with pro back up. Bliss is also great. That will work with a TT. Get the 3.55 gears with the locker not the 3.31s. The Lariat has great options. Stay away from the sun roof. They have allot of problems. I do have the Nav but we also got a RV nav that looks for camper friendly routes. Heated and cooled seats keep the DW happy. The lariat will give you dual controlled AC which's keeps the DW happy. The LED bed lighting is great. Also get the Aux switches. Not very expensive but a pain if you want them later.

I have a 2020 F250 ccsb 6.7 with 3.31 rear and xlt package. No problems with the 3.31 but I am only towing 6-7,000 lbs. I like the 350 for the higher payload as I only have 2400 lbs with the F250. I can't see needing more than a 3.55 gear with the 10 speed trans although I haven't been out west in the higher elevations. So far I am very happy with the truck. Last week I drove 210 mi, not towing, and got 25 mpg @ 60 mph

I’ll custom order the F350 6.7PSD 10 spd 3.73 rear panoramic and cab top camera. And don’t forgot extended warranty if you plan to keep it after a few years.

Agree with order exacly color and options you want on a F-350. No sense getting a F-250 when you can order a F-350.

Rear camera is going to be standard . My next truck is going to have a front camera since I can not see over the hood.

I doubt you will see many (if any) F-350's on any dealer lot. Oh, I don't know how the computer chip shortage is going to affect the order delivery date. My guess it will be at least weeks delayed.

I just arrived home with my F350 retirement truck. I went gas and after 1,500 miles it seems a good choice for me. I got: Lariat/Lariat value/11,500 GVWR, camper package, 5th wheel package, BLISS, high mount camera. I avoided the pro back thing as it adds a lot of gear to the steering assembly that seems prone to needed repair in the long run and I have no issues backing a trailer. It also was a budget buster.

If this is really your last truck and you really aren't going to get another RV - ever, then I suppose a 250 would be OK, But a 350 isn't much more and probably would re-sell better - when the time comes for someone to sell it....

I'd load it with just about every feature available, cameras, driving assistants (adaptive cruise, adaptive steering), etc.

I'd get the color, options and trim level I wanted - even if it means ordering it and waiting. After all - it's your 'last' truck.

I'd get a diesel, 4x4, 20" wheels, 4x4 and let that combination dictate the rear diff ration (probably end being a 3.55). And I'd get the locker option (see above about getting all the features).

I'd nix the moon-roof, the limited, and the platinum unless there is something there you really want.

You'll probably be at the fully loaded Lariat or a King Ranch once once you load it.

To me it's all about the creator comforts now as the HP and Torque is more than most folks need for a camper - regardless of the rear ratio.

With a 10 spd transmission a 355 gear ratio is more than adequate.

A Lariat trim with the Lariat untimate package seems to my sweet spot. Not so many options that something might break like power running boards or like the pro back up assist. Things do and will break in time.

I just bought my retirement truck. I got the F350 Crew SRW 6.7L TD XLT and added a few goodies (ultimate trailer towing package, 360 camera package, etc.). If I recall correctly, 3.55 is the only ratio offered on the SRW (not sure about the dually). This is my first full sized truck and my first diesel so I have a lot to learn but I expect that this truck will handle anything I will ever want to tow. Our entry TT will weigh in around 9000 lbs.
