Unhappy Roadmaster 9700 Tow unit

I have a 9700 just installed in my 2012 Jeep. All lights work, etc. The unit tests fine when I put it in but it doesn't activate when the brake lights go on in the motorhome. Had my wife ride in the jeep and she confirmed no activation when stopping the motorhome. I tried to trouble shoot it and the only thing I found was the brake activating wire (The single round plug in) is "hot" all the time. Seems it should only be hot when the brakes on the rig are applied, no? Very frustrating.

On my Sunseeker, I had to add a Tekonsha brake controller to get the system to work. They wired it for towing, but there was no installed controller. Once I added it, everything worked. You need to check, some manufacturers didn't run the wiring all the way back either, they left it rolled up underneath.
