Say hello to Ol Blue!

I traded the Wrangler in today for my new F-350. Its a 2018, XL/STX CCSB, 6.2, 4.30 axles and fifth wheel prep. Im not sure how the PO put 52k miles on it as it looks new.

I went to a CAT scale last night and got an unloaded weight with a full tank of gas and two dogs totaling 70 lbs for a weight of 7,040 (4020 steer, 3020 drive). My tags on the truck have a GAWR of 4,800 and 6,780 with a cargo capacity of 3836.

I put my numbers into a calculator on ChangingGears.com. I subtracted the dogs and added 300lbs for a sliding hitch for the unloaded weight. The dogs and us average 160lbs for the calc. It gave a max tow capacity of 14,250. My plan was to look for a fifth wheel that maxed out at 14,000. I will look at some with a UVW of around 10,500 knowing that our cargo will be around 1k based on our class A experience.

The PO put Hankook Dynapro AT2 tires, size 275/65r18 on. They are a little shorter than the factory 275/70r18, and are load range E with a max load of 3,518 at 80psi.

Have I missed anything or made any mistakes?

I'm really impressed when someone can post their truck real world scaled unladin axle weights instead of passing along a brochure number.
Ford gives your truck a 6780 lb rawr that gonna' carry all the in the bed load. Now simply subtract 3020 from 6780 = 3760 lbs for a max load on the trucks rear axle. Front axles weights change little to non so its not a concern.
That 6780 rawr is the lessor of a tire or wheel or rear spring pack.

The payload sticker on the truck is gvwr based (front and rear axles). This number if used as a in the bed payload can overload the trucks rawr. The gvwr based payload works for those that may (example)have a overhead rack on a work truck that sits at the back of the bed and mounts on the frame rails at the front of the truck. This way all a gvwr payload can be used if needed.

Thanks for the kind words and help. I towed my Wrangler behind our class A with a 5k limit. I was kind of anal about the weight and spent too much money at the CAT scales doing before and after weights when big changes were made.

BTW: my first pass at the scale with the truck stumped the scale. It read the front correctly but the rear was only 1k. That had the TA manager scratching his head. The reweigh was correct.

We sold our Winnebago in three weeks and purchased an Alliance Paradigm 310RL with a weight of 12,268 UVW and 15k GVWR. A little more than I wanted but it’s an amazing trailer.

I’ve added a few things to the truck, evidently 600lbs worth, which is hard to believe. I added a roll-up tonneau, Reese puck adapter, Curt Q20 slider, GPS and a couple small things. That plus two dogs all equal the 600lbs I mentioned. My ready to tow weight tonight was 7,640 (4,200 F and 3,440 rear). My wife will add 150 to that. I added a SCT GTX tuner from Five Star with a 85 tow tune and it feels a little peppier but the shifts are much more aggressive. Maybe a little too aggressive when tow/haul is enabled and downshifting.

I hitched up the fifth wheel which is dry (except for a little in the black tank, 7/8 full propane, 3/4 full 20 lb tank, Weber grill, propane fire ring, chairs, some clothes and kitchen stuff. The combined weight was 20,640 (4,200 F, 6,200 R, 10,240 trailer). If I’m correct, the pin weight is 2,760 and the trailer weight is 13k. The pin weight is 21.2%.

I’ve got some chucking so I think I need to add some fresh water and maybe move some of the weight from the pass through to the generator compartment. It did seem to pull a little better when I first picked it up from the dealer with 1/2 tank of water. Adding water is a little difficult because I can’t pull up in front of my house :(

We spent five nights in it the day after we got it home. There are a few small issues but nothing too terrible. It is really, really nice having three A/C’s!

Congratulations! I agree it is a very nice trailer. Just be prepared there will be a few niggles here or there. But for us that got sorted out quickly.

Your configuration is very similar to mine. I have some 250 lbs more on the hitch but I have the 5500 Onan and some solar and inverter stuff that may explain the difference. Also 2 folding e-bikes in the storage bay., worth 85 pounds. I decided to load the heavy supplies (dog food, beverages etc.) in the back of the trailer or over the trailer axles (we kicked out the chairs and have now dinette benches with substantial storage).

Ole Blue looks brand new! 21% pin weight should be plenty of weight on the pin to prevent chucking. Maybe just a bad road?

You really posted your wife's weight on here? How long have you been married? How long do you plan to be married?

Nice looking truck. That is a far cry from a Wrangler. Without the trailer it is going to require a wee bit more room to park or make a u-turn.
