Good day RV Peoples,

I am shopping for a “Shock absorber Pin Box” and I would like to have your opinion on which one is best for my need.

I haul a 36 feet 5th Wheel (dry weight 8,584 lbs) with a short box F-250.

First thing is forget the dry weight unless you never add anything to the trailer. Use the trailers GVWR for all selections of towing equipment.

I bought the TrailAir. It helped the ride but whether it helped enough to justify the $1,200 is still up in the air for me. I kind of feel it costs twice as much as it should!

When I first started out I was advised to get an air ride hitch instead of an air ride pin box. The reason was that the hitch could move to another truck but the pin box would not necessarily move from rig to rig. Don't know if this is true but I bought a trailer saver air ride hitch.

We have the air ride on our rig, 37 foot toy hauler. Not sure I would buy again but have been happy with it. My toy is a 2 seat Polaris General and our rig is the open floor plan, (no garage) and that gives me the ability to tie down further forward inside the rig. Not sure I have found the sweet spot to reduce chucking and bouncing, but how you load the trailer makes a big difference. We are looking to upgrade our toy hauler to a garage model (DW wants washer and dryer) and i will prolly just get the pin box with the rubber plate bushing setup.

I just ordered a GEN-Y pin box. Reviews say it is wry good, but I will not be able to review it until I have pulled the 1000 mile break in. Liked the fact that it has no adjustment or maintenance.

I liked the way my Mor-Ryde pin box towed. It was very smooth with no chucking.

Ditto on the Moryde. I also have the B&W Companion slide. I know their are many opinions on the slider but there's always that one situation where "better safe than sorry". My brother in law wishes he'd spent the money on the hitch (less) than the repair (A lot more).

I tow a 34 ft 5th wheel at 18.5k lbs. I had a Trailer Saver TS3 hitch in our F450 for the first 10 years & it worked great, but it's very heavy, 270 lbs. I then switched to a Trail Air pin box with a standard light weight hitch, in an F350 dually diesel, that I could more easily remove, to slide my new truck camper into the truck for part of the year. The Trailer Saver was better overall, but there was still some "chucking', horizontal jerking. The Trail Air is better at controlling the 'chucking", but not as good at controlling the porpoising , vertical bouncing. If I was going to put a hitch in & leave it, I would get the Trailer Saver. If you want to remove the hitch sometimes, get the Trail Air, with a light weight hitch. Of course, price is a factor too. The Trailer Saver costs more than a Trail Air/standard hitch combo.
