Shopping for a new GMC 2500, which dealer?

Just sold my motorhome and have learned a lot about 5th wheels and trucks on this website. My homework is done! Can you recommend a dealer that will give me a fair deal on a GMC diesel 2500 or 3500?

I live in Colorado and I have seen a few trucks trickling in lately. So far most dealers won't budge from their $3000 to $10000 over MSRP. A few will come down but I will have to wait. I even have a pre order pending, but I am not committed yet. I can also wait until December if I have too, but I am willing to travel anywhere in the USA FOR A GOOD DEAL.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Deals are tough to come by right now. But two dealers that might still discount are Laura GMC in St. Louis and Dennis Dillion in Idaho.

I like the GM trucks but I also like the Ford and Ram trucks. Maybe open up to Ram and Ford to increase your odds of finding the color and options you want. These trucks are about as even as they get.

I'm still shopping for a 2022 GMC 2500 or 3500. I have driven a few (trim levels-AT4, and a bare bones SLT) but don't like the pricing right now. I would prefer an SLT with the premium and convenience package, but it seems that most dealers are only ordering AT4s and Denalis.

If I can't find an SLT, I may settle for an AT4. Does anyone own a 2020-2022 AT4 out there?

Do yourself a BIG FAVOR and drop the 2500/250’s from your hunt. If you are looking at a 5er get nothing less than a 3500/350 SRW.

I give Rhagfo three thumbs up. Do not get a 2500 if you plan on a fifth wheel. You limit yourself way too much. That said, good luck. Idaho dealers seem to have more access than others. You'll probably need to put down a deposit to reserve a future vehicle. Try Dave Smith Motors. Don't expect a bargain. I've driven GMC for years now but to be honest all the big diesel trucks are really good.

Have you tried Hellman in Delta yet? Randy Jones is great to work with. Not GMC, but Chevrolet is the same beast with a different name. As others have said, the 3500 is going to be the better choice.

Yes, I have contacted most of those dealers, and the 3500 is more difficult to find as compared to the 2500. I will call a few more. I have a couple of dealers that I am working with, who have some builds that are coming, with a possible delivery of late Dec. to early Jan.

None of those have any 3500s coming. I may have to wait a bit longer.

I agree with the 3500 call because of the spec sheet, but keep in mind that a 2500 is the same basic truck as an SRW 3500 with just a few tweaks here and there. Given the supply climate, I would jump on whatever you can find that works now. You can always trade it later if you find you actually need a 3500. The 2500 trade will be valued relative to the street price of a new one. So it can be an inflation hedge if the 3500s keep going up.

Just go to their build sheet and build your own then take it to the dealer make a deal and order your truck the way you want it. As others have said go with the one ton the price difference is not much .

This is just bad logic!
Go to the dealer of your choice and order the 3500 you want!

Absolutely the way to go. Get exactly what you want, in a 1-ton.

On top of that, it also seems that those ordering are not getting hit with any dealer upcharges on in stock inventory. I seem to recall several posts here and elsewhere where the potential buyer submitted their online build to multiple dealers and were able to get the vehicle at that cost or less.

If you can get the one you want in less than a year, sure, this is the way to go. But from what I am hearing many dealers will let you order away without clarifying that if you click certain options the truck you ordered is just not going to get built in the near term. Or its going to get built and then sit in a parking lot waiting for the right chip or trim part that never comes in. And then here come the excuses about why it never comes. Or you can get lucky and they build the truck you want pretty quickly and actually deliver it. But its a crap shoot right now.
