Sumosprings vs. Airbags

Hello, has anyone had experience with both these applications? I am trying to help a friend choose one or the other since he needs more support for when he tow’s his travel trailer. I have experience with Air Lift bags but not with Sumosprings. Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks!

I have the 5000# Rebel sumosprings on a 2500 GMC 2015 truck and love them. I have had airbags on other trucks too. I like them because no need to air up for my 10000# trailer no leaks too. Does not cause harsh ride with no trailer attached.

Just read about the Sumosprings. Seems to make sense as the sumospring material has been improved. I would vote for SumoSprings over Air Bags.

Thanks tuffr2 and redwing10 that helps. I don’t know much about the Sumosprings so I was leaning towards the bags. I’m glad to see that they worked out for you and you both have experience with both applications.

I put the Sumo's on the wifes '16 1500 chevy crew cab 4wd to help with 900-1000 lb hitch weight. This 4wd truck like many 4wd trucks sits level and any weight makes a sag.
They replace the bump stops.
What neat about them is I can unscrew them from the mounting stud when I don't need them and put the OEM bump stops back on with a MM nut and washer for a stock ride. I live on a unpaved bouncy county road and have around six miles to get out to the highway. The wife didn't like the stiff ride on our rough roads.
It takes about 4 min to change them.

I've tried Timbrens and found them to be a little harsh. I now have AirCell on my 12 Ram 2500. They just pop in and out so you can change the spacers without removing the whole unit. They give the support I need without the extra harshness of Timbrens.

I put Timbrens on and unloaded so far have had 0 difference. I will see how they do when I have the trailer loaded on it in about a week. I chose them over the Sumosprings because of their load handling ability.

I did air bags on several vehicles and installation was always a chore and over time they develop leaks. Both the Timbren and Sumospring installation is about 30 minutes for both sides since you are removing factory bump stops and installing them in their place. All I needed was a socket wrench for the Timbrens.

I have had airbags and Timbrens on different Toyota Tundras and if I had it to do over again I would go with airbags. The Timbrens rode hard and harsh when you had light to medium loads. Basically they just extend your bump stop so it engages sooner.
