I have done this all my life. Driving down the street, I can look out the side window to check the space, windshield and mirrors for traffic. Backing most of your field of view is where you are not going. If there is something blocking your view, backing more of your vehicle is past the obstruction before you can see.

Or cameras everywhere to catch speeders and other wrong doers

For years I have thought the ideal punishment for speeding thru a construction zone would be blindfold the driver stand him in a barrel next to the traffic lane for a few hours...
I have never been found of the fine for traffic systems. As been shown the well off are not hurt by fines. Traffic cameras for speed are normally set up where speed really is not a safety issue, but revenue.
I would not mind a camera at every traffic light, if used right, not to mail out red light tickets. Could help move traffic, by greening the heaviest flow. Best for when a wreck happened show for sure who was wrong. They could be paid for by mailing the guy that MTed his ashtray out the window...

I was replying to a post that said there was no need for backup sensors since trucks are now equipped with backup cameras. My point was that you can’t always see clearly using with a backup camera when conditions are bad.
I often have to park my long bed truck in a narrow parking lot. This lot was designed for cars, not trucks. Parking a short bed truck would be a challenge as well. Personally I am glad for the technology at hand that makes parking easier. I use my side view mirrors in addition to the backup camera to get parked. Could I do it with side view mirrors alone? Yes. Why not use the tools at hand?
Backup cameras and parking sensors are both proven to reduce accidents, and in some cases, save lives. If you are arguing against them, that seems a bit silly.

F250 King Ranch. Remote start. Factory 5th wheel prep. Sync. back up camera and sensors are my faves.
I'm really disappointed that they have gone away from the gorgeous lighted color matched side steps on the King Ranch and added the retractable steps. Our F150 Platinum has them and I HATE them to death. I forget about them and get cracked in the shin a lot.

I like the power steering and power brakes. Everything else is manual- Windows, locks, transmission, lights, wipers, seats, heater ( no AC), but it does have a radio!
Call me old school. I can do all that stuff myself.
Happy Glamping.

Unplanned - at least you have the technology to post to the iRV forum and not still using a chisel and stone.[emoji41]

One of my other cars doesn't even have roll up windows, or a heater!

The new redesign of the Ram was introduced yesterday, and you guessed it. More technology. A lot more cameras, a lot more screen, a lot more power, a stiffer frame, more capability.
Basically more of what I think is as good thing.
No hand crank windows. Actually when I think about this amazes me. That power windows have taken over. How did that happen?

I have one of the new ram 1500's. it has all the usual tech stuff we are all used but new to me and pretty cool is the cornering lighting when turning. also when my trailer is hooked on, the proximity alarms include the trailer in the footprint. I'm not even sure how that even works. I thought the automatic noise cancelling would be nice but I disabled it after I noticed a droning sound at certain speeds. it is pretty quiet as is. like some of the others I turned off the lane departure and auto stop because I plan to be paying attention to the road and objects in it when I drive...have to watch out for the texters you know.

I would like having shorter bed height and a better turning radius... I guess I could solve the turning radius with a different truck. However, it would be nice if inexpensive hauler beds from the factory were a thing.
There are plenty of things I like having. But things I would like see offered are:
- Factory GPS that works for RV/commercial towing (like what Garmin offers)
- Factory TPMS that displays pressure and temperature of both truck and trailer
- Better standard headlights
- Reverse utility lights
- On-Board-Air

I think the redesigned 2019 Ram 2500/3500 has a few of those things. I am thinking it has TPMS for both the truck and trailer. Also it is supposed to have much better headlights. At least the marketing guy talks about the headlights being much better than the competition.

Yea, I don't understand why truck bodies keep getting higher and higher off the ground. I can't even reach the oil dipstick now with out a step stool or using the spokes of the wheel as a ladder. I can't reach anything in the bed from the side. Never had a problem with that in my '97 Chevy Z71 4x4.

The trucks from 1997 were tiny compared to today's trucks. You ever look at the big travel trailers and 5th wheels? The RV manufacturers are now building and selling 3 slide huge trailers. 5th wheels are now 42 feet long. Trucks have to get bigger.
Just look at the Jayco 33 RLTS. That travel trailer has a GVWR of close to 12,000lbs maybe over.
If the DW likes that travel trailer what truck is going to pull it?

The hood line and bedrails don't have to be higher to do that.
