I would love to see the data that proves your first statement.

Driving between the minimum and maximum speed limits is only dangerous if the guy behind me thinks he has to match the maximum speed limit, is distracted, or is asleep. He may be exceeding the speed limit anyway, so even at the maximum speed, I could get rear ended.

What about in the situations where you can't maintain the maximum speed limit ?

I can climb a 7% grade at 45 to 50 MPH, but the pedal is mashed to the floor and the piston are looking to fly out the spark plug holes. By the way, I have passed some big rigs, while climbing at that speed.

I will not accept your theory that I am SAFER cruising down the Interstate at the posted maximum speed, which is above my comfortable traveling speed and my equipments capabilities.

If you see me cruising along at 62 MPH, my comfortable cruising speed, go around me.

Driving the prevailing speed is proven to be safer than driving too fast or too slow.

I can't read where it says that the " prevailing speed " is also the maximum posted speed.

Is that in the part of the chart that got cut off ?

It claims speed in left lane orientation. Is there an equal study with right lane?

I just looked up the information and found this http://www.mikeontraffic.com/85th-pe...eed-explained/
and it looks to me that we should all be in the proper lane when we travel, out in the left for passing and on the right for sustained distances.

I stand to be corrected if I am wrong in my assumptions.

With a 70mph speed limit you would be at 63 if you stayed in the 85th percentile. That should be safe especially if you stayed in the right lane. I agree...to slow in the wrong lane is not good,

Wrong. The 85th percentile has virtually nothing to do with the posted speed limit. Rather, it is the speed that 85% of vehicles are traveling on that section of roadway.

On a winding mountain road, the 85th percentile may very well be less than the posted speed limit. On the other hand, the 85th percentile on a wide open 70mph (posted) freeway is likely 75-80.

Shifting Japanese 4wd into neutral

The two main Japanese mfgr's Nissan and Toyota do not disengage the output gear of the transfer case when shifting to neutral- they shift the input gear into neutral and therefore the front and rear axles are still engaged with each other. The only other way to do it, at least on Toyota, is acquire the front axles and disconnect hubs from older model and install them on the newer model. Most Toyota off road shops are quite adept at his adaption. You then shift transfer case into neutral and disengage fron hubs and you're good to go towing with 4 wheel down.
