Has anyone had a problem with the tow/haul light going off in drive? I hooked the fiver up yesterday. I drive it this am and noticed that the light was off in drive but on in reverse, neutral and 3rd. It feels as if the tranny is staying in tow haul mode, however I can't tell.
Has anyone else had this problem?

I am also looking at trading my '03 F250, that has been Bullet Proofed, for an '05 3500 GMC Duramax DRW. Anyone have input on those as well?

Is your F-250 overloaded when towing? If it is, then trade for the Jimmy. But if it's not, since you've already spent the money to fix the 6.0L engine, I'd hang onto the Ford until it is worn out - about 10 more years.

I guess Smokey knows what year model truck you have....
I don't so I can only offer "generalaties" from owning 5 diesel fords over the years....
If a newer 6 speed in a 2011+, I wouldn't use tow haul 90% of the time...
If the old 4 speed, tow haul issues meant tranny issues... suggest getting a code reader to see if it is throwing any codes... many places (like autozone) will read the codes for you for free hoping you buy from them....
good luck and Happy Thanksgiving

Tow haul is only 03 6.0 liters and up. Not the 4R100, just 5R110 and 6R140.

I get a new Ford F350 SRW every 2-3 years, 99, 01, 04, 06, 08, 2011.
The only issue I ever had with any of these was the 08 model, the T/H light would work a while then quit working, had ford reprogram-check, it worked again for a month or so, then do it again.
I tow on rear ball hitch up to 14K total weight of trlr and equipment.
The 2011 seems to also have an exhaust brake when towing and engage the T/H button.
The new Ford 6.7L diesel is far better than any of the Navistar diesels,7.3, 6.0 6.4..
I run them to 100 K, trade for new, all ghe bells & whistles, dealer has waiting list for my trade its, Lat one sold for $34,990.00 and the dealer treats me well, OH, i remove the bed install a service bed, when trade, put new bed back on, so presents as new, with 100K miles.
Just my rant Happy Holidays
Dave

Mine is an '03 SRW. Doesn't seem overloaded and the numbers look good.

He said he has a 2003 F-250. He also said he has tow-haul. Assuming it's a diesel, that means he has a 6.0L engine with the TorqShift 5R110 5-speed automagic tranny with tow-haul mode. The earlier 2003 F-250s with 7.3L engine did not have tow-haul mode with the 4R100 4-speed automagic tranny. So the logical conclusion is he has a 2003 F-250 with the 6.0L engine and the new (at that time) TorqShift automagic tranny with tow-haul mode.

About October/November 2002, installed with the 6.0L engine in 2003 SuperDuty trucks. During the first quarter of the 2003 model year (between July and about October 2002), Ford continued to build the 7.3L engine and 4R100 tranny.
