i have a coachmen cascade length 29-7 ft,tires st225/75d15c,weights of base 6109, gvwr8700, hitch 700 and axle 5878. i am new to this and need advise on a tow vehicle. i will use this vehicle for everyday use. i have hear ford is the way to go. have no plans to upgrade tt in the foreseeable future.i have a place on the river the tt sit on 95% of the time. mostly need to haul tt in and out at end of season. any advise on tow vehicle.

Get a diesel - Either of the following will do the trick - Ford F-250 w/6.0L; Dodge 2500 w/Cummins (Probably overkill!); or the venerable Chevy 2500 w/Duramax.

Even as a daily driver, the diesel will get you better mileage than a gasser.

I have an 2005 E-350 Ford van with a v-10 and 4.10 RA. It tows our TT very nicely. Our TT has a normal tow weight of around 7500# and a gvwr of 10000#. I probably don't get as good of mileage as a diesel but we like our vehicle very much. Last night, at a station near us, diesel fuel was 73 cents higher than regular gas.

With the added price of a diesel engine in a vehicle and the skyrocketing price of diesel fuel, if you are only going to towing it twice a year, to and from the park, go with a gas engine. The trailer weight is low enough to tow with any 3/4 ton truck.

get the diesel, the gas stuff is way week,

and the chevy duramax is a great vehicle,
i own a shop and i have worked for all the factories at the desert proving grounds and i see way more fords and doges that have blown up than the d/a chevy,

and we just got back from the trucken nationals and our duramax that only had a hot box and propain , and i built the trans ofcourse ----just killed all the fords and the doges,

in fact we only got beat by 1 truck and it was a duramax chevy that had a twin turbo set up on the stock motor.

for the street i run a srw 2500 and a drw 3500 and i have them chiped and thats it ,

and i always get these ford and dodge guys always want to run me,( my trucks look all stock , big mud flaps and a big air hitch in the bed,

and i kill them all, especially towing heavy,

i have a buddy that has a lightining ford all done up ,
and when empty he get me on top end because i still have the stock fuel shut off at 97 mph
but up to 97 i keep 1/2 a truck lenth on him .

i tell you the d/a combination is very hard to beat ,

i have an 05 ford torqueshift trans appart now in the shop and it is sad what the thing is ,( its just a glorified r100 or e4od )

and the dodge trans aint no better.

Since you will also use this tow vehicle for everyday use, get a diesel. I say this because using the truck for everyday use, you can get 18 MPG (+/-). A gas 3/4 ton truck wont get that good of mileage empty and its towing mileage will be terrible. At the moment diesel fuel is higher here by 9 cents a gallon. Sometimes it is lower. If you have something else to use as a daily driver that gets 25-30+ MPG then get a gas truck and just use it to tow.

We have two vehicles and can use either as daily drivers (a jeep Cherokee 6 cylinder...20MPG) and a 2002 F350 4x4 crew cab dually diesel 19 MPG). The truck weighs 4000 pounds more than the jeep, is a heck of a lot more comfortable, and lots more fun to drive. Mostly the jeep stays parked. Another vote for diesel, another vote for the chev and be sure to get the new lbz engine and allison 6 speed auto. Best combo on the road.

update bought 2005 silverado 2500 hd w/ all the bells and whistles. luv the truck and it tows nicely. thanks for all the input. i am partial to chevys myself.
