Towed trailer tire protection

I came across a new product, RV Tire De Fender. This appears to be a heavy duty fender that bolts to the axle, and contrains the damage of a blowout, protecting the RV.

I joined the wait list, as it looks like a good solution, depending on price.

Look at the responses in the other forums that you are advertising this on. It does not seem any more practical than a screen door in a submarine. Not all ideas that get manufactured are good. This one may be good for the folks selling it but that is about it.

Not sure what you are talking about...I am not advertising this anywhere. I am not related to the product, but came across this while browsing.

I have several trailers, including a travel trailer, that if the design lives up to the hype I would definitely be interested in purchasing.

If it turns out to be snake oil, then I won't be a customer.

It looks like the axle goes through it and the brake backing plate is bolted to it. So, if thats true then it moves up and down with the suspension?

Yes, which obviously could mean clearance issues.

The alternative approach is to add some skid plates to the bottom of the trailer.

That may be the only way that works. Using some 1/8" aluminum plating that wraps around the edge of the trailer would offer very good protection, but be unique for each trailer design.

It is also only held on with the four brake backing plate bolts and a 30”+ lever length of flapping blown tire.
