Towing a 28ft. Cargo Mate with my Class A / Shocker Hitch
I would like to get every one's opinion on the Shocker (air bag) hitch if any of you have ever used one. My class A is 34Ft. and my trailer is 28ft and weighs in at 9,000 lbs. loaded. I am currently using a standard bumper hitch with WD bars. Looking to get something more advanced and better for both motorhome and trailer. Thank you for your input!

should not even be towing that trailer with a bumper mounted hitch i do not think they are rated for more than a small cargo/boat trailer.

Well I do, all over the country and so do thousands of racers every weekend. Just looking to see if there is a better solution than my traditional bar WD hitch. I have had the MH hitch reinforced with welded plates just for this purpose but don't want to spend money needlessly if this Shocker hitch is not a better solution.

When you say "bumper hitch", hopefully you are referring to what is known around tow groups as a "bumper pull" trailer, as opposed to a 5th wheel or a gooseneck. I'm certainly hoping you're not pulling a 9000 lb trailer with a ball mounted on a bumper.

Class A towing capacities
What 34' class A are you using for a tow vehicle? There are very few even Diesel Pushers that are rated for that in that size. And all of them will have a frame mounted or part of frame hitch, no bumpers.

Yes a frame mounted hitch with a 2 1/2" bar and ball insert. The trailer is a 28 ft. Cargo Mate bumper pull. MH is a 34ft. Diesel Pusher Cummins. Yes you are correct MH's don't have bumper hitches.

So, what make and model? Is it rated for 10,000 pounds towing and using a weight distributing hitch?

I don't remember what make and model my current hitch is. I think it was originally rated for 4,000 lbs. but I had it reinforced. I have been using a weight distribution system for the last 13 years and 60,000 miles. I am considering buying the Shocker (air bag) hitch as an upgrade because it is supposed to be smoother on the MH and Trailer. Just wanted to know if anyone had used one before?

Thinking you would be better off asking on a race car towing forum ..........don't think your thread will turn up the answer's you are looking for.........but you are going to hear a lot of opinion's on your towing setup............

like this one?? https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories...BB0MszP0EAQYBC looks like it might take some of the jarring and bouncing out of the towing BUY i would think with your weight of both units it would tow relatively good the way you have it just a standard weight dist hitch. I live on the Oregon coast and we have miles of large sand dunes. i see some huge motorhomes towing equally huge car hauler trailers full of dune buggies and quads. they stack them inside, double decker.

Can't say anything about the air bag hitches but I use a GenY torsion hitch and really like it - seems to take much of the harshness out of towing;

is your class A a spring suspension coach, or an airbag coach? Airbag coaches are self-leveling and don't need WD hitch systems.
As far as shock goes - a lot of that goes to how well your braking system works between the coach and trailer.
Are you trying to control porpoising?

I am trying to find a system that may be easier on the trailer hitch, motorhome, and trailer. As many miles that I travel the trailer seems to experience enough bouncing around that I often have to stop and re-strap the contents. I have read that the air bag Shocker hitch keeps this from happening. Since I have air bags on the MH I don't need WD bars which may be contributing to the violence???? Plus my hitch system is 15 years old so it may also be safer to upgrade.

HR34Jordan-
I have no experience with one, but I've kept the Trailer Toad (link here) in mind for cases where folks might want to tow a trailer that's "large" compared to the coach.
