Towing Around the Yard
Please forgive me if this is a stupid question. But, as a newbie, that's my job! [emoji38]
When I need to move my TT around the yard (from driveway to far corner of yard) do I need to hook up my weight distribution bars?
It's only a couple of hundred feet. It is a 21' Ultralite Heartland Mallard around 4000 lbs.
Thanks,
Brenwol1

No, you can even tow it further as long as it is slow and your tow vehicle can control the trailer you will be fine.
I towed a 6,500lb. trailer 10 miles without a WD hitch to a State Park to dump the black tank and back for a total of 20 miles but never faster than 45mph on back country roads.

When I towed my camping trailer on the beach, the suggested way was to remove the distribution bars. Most folks did and traveled a few miles over some rough and then soft roads with no problems.
I figured having the bars on, would give me more weight on the front axle, evening out the load on the flattened tires.
Worked great for me.

You really don't need weight distribution bars until over 45 mph to prevent swaying or fish tailing. I hear many campers leaving our CG and the distribution bars are just popping away. It's at least 10 miles to the nearest above 45 mph road speed from here.

Weight distribution bars distribute weight. They take some of the weight off the rear tires and send it to the trailer axles and front tires. That prevents the lighter suspensions from bottoming out or having lightly loaded front tires.
They are not for sway control, although they do help.

Sorry guys for this advice - it is ok to tow your trailer around the yard as long as you do not exceed the speed rating on your tires.

Im going to say it depends. If your hitch is going to tear up your yard then i would. If youve got anything bigger than an s10 i wouldnt worry about it
