Howdy all. We are contemplating going full time in about 2 years. Part of the downsizing is going down to just one vehicle. My truck is flat towable but the wife's car can only be trailer towed. She does not like driving my truck so you can probably guess what way we (she)

is leaning. So my question is what pros and cons are there for towing an enclosed car trailer. Also for those who currently tow an enclosed trailer, any recommendations on brands or construction?

The biggest pro is that you’ll be able to take your wife’s car and she will be happy. Happy wife happy life. You’ll also have the benefit of keeping you car out of the weather and you won’t have to worry about rock chips etc.

The cons are that it will add weight to your total and you could exceed your max weight. There’s also the problem of having to store the trailer when you arrive at a destination. Some CGs will have overflow parking places others may not and you have a hassle finding a place for it. You’ll have to make sure that the car has a towing hitch so that you can move the trailer.

I feel there are too many negatives for me to trailer a car.

Wow, yeah, an enclosed trailer is a crazy amount of work, weight and storage hassle. I'd have to think just selling both current vehicles and getting one that could be flat towed or at least on a dolly would be the easiest solution. I always figure the enclosed trailers are for guys with race cars or classic cars.

I'm fully on board with keeping my wife happy but in your position I'd definitely start looking at alternatives (for the car

). I've never read about enclosed trailers much and am curious to hear of any experiences.

Pro, you can not only put the car in the trailer but should have room for some tools, bikes and maybe a kayak or golf cart depending on how long. It also gives you a good size garage or work area if needed. A pro that was not mentioned your car tires will last longer.

You will need to full time a bit differently than others as you have to be picky where you stay.

If I was out west I would for sure have a car hauler trailer and use the massive BLM land where there is a lot of room to park.

If you full time in the east, again need to be picky as to where you will stay to make sure they have room for your long rig.

In all our travels with our enclosed trlr we had to unhook it at one place that was back in only and not long enough of a space and they had extra parking for the trlr.

I towed a 24 foot enclosed car hauler to Alaska and back from Southern Oregon. Had a car, an ATV, BBQ, tools, spare tires and "other good stuff". Never had a problem - did have to move the trailer to a storage area in (I think) White Horse but that was not a problem. Currently pull an open car hauler and rarely have to disconnect the trailer. Inconvenient, well maybe, but I think the trailer pulls easier than towing four down. That's my humble opinion.
