You will like it. The IFS is very nice with better steering. In 2020, as you probably already know, GM redesigned the truck and improved all capacities. New frame to keep up with Ford and Ram. Much better cooling too.
You can search youtube 'TFL Towing with a GMC or maybe Chevy'.
Here is one of their videos. I think this gives a summary of all the trucks.

they went backwards as far as the frame goes from the 201 era 2500HD/3500's
I've not seen a frame on anything that comes close. it was probably too heavy for them to make the current CAFE.....

I had a 2016 GMC 3500 duramax crew cab with single rear wheels , I updated to a 2020 GMC 3500 crew cab duel wheel truck. The new truck as you know has has a 10speed trans that both GM and Ford share a very similar design. The Gm trans works very well with the L5P motor and they have retuned the L5P to produce more low speed TQ . The older trucks had to be running about 1900 rpm or more to pull a heavy load up steep hills. The new combo does fine at 1700 rpm pulling the same load up the same hill. The new truck run about 200 RPM slower at the same road speed compared to the older 6 speed truck , GM changed the rear end ratio to 3.42 from 3.73 . the truck is a little more firm in the ride dept but it does have more rear spring then the single rear wheel trucks. I think all of the big 3 brands have there strong points it really just comes down to what you value. the drive and knowing what to expect having over 700,000 miles + in the seat of 6 different Duramax trucks since 2001 I know what to expect and maybe slightly bias to GM trucks (3/4 ton +). Fuel economy is right around 17mpg with summer fuel and warm days. I will say the new truck drinks DEF fluid compared to the 2016 and the 2013 trucks I owned. I needs roughly 10 gallons to go 7000 miles with any life time fuel economy of 15.4mpg todate.

I have had both Dodge and GMC and had a 2016 Ram/Dodge. Current truck is 2018 GMC, the GMC is smoother and quieter than the Ram, maybe rides a little better and has more power. The Ram has a much better exhaust brake. If i was buying today and it was a dedicated tow vehicle i would buy the Ram, if all around vehicle i would buy the GMC again.

Why are you looking to change trucks? No longer have a horse in this race but here in Texas you see a ton of jobbers pulling trailer with hot shot loads. Clearly Ram is winning this war. You see way more rams trucks pulling these commercial loads. When you need to make a living hauling it looks like Ram is the winner. Safe travels
Enjoy the journey

Could it be Ram usually give out great discount? I shopped around last year, both Ford and GM only offer 2-4K off MSRP and Ram still offer 8-10k off.
I guess it’s the same as we see a lot Nissan cars and SUVs at airport car rental. But their consumer sales is extremely low.

Yeah. COVID shutdown caused short on supply for ford and GM, but seems like Mexico built Ram didn’t take the hit too hard. They still offer decent discount.

I tow a 33' TT with a 2000 GMC Sierra 3500HD AT4 Duramax. When I was in the market last year, I spent a lot of time looking at all HD truck makes. They all have their pluses and minuses. Since any of the Big 3 make great trucks these days, your choice comes down to what you value most.
If you like gadgets and screens and glam and complexity, go with the Ram. If you like big boxy bodies and massaging seats and uninspired interiors, go with the SuperDuty. If you like comfort (IFS) and smoothness (The Allison is the best tranny out there right now) go with GM. The GM interiors are definitely a generation or 2 behind the competition, especially with the small screen on the center stack. I find the heads-up display makes up for the lack of screen real estate, and you don't have to look down to see it!
I'm 100% happy with my GMC and if given the choice, I would do it again.

The 2020+ Duramax/10-speed Allison-branded tranny is the bees knees.

I don't currently own the latest gen of the GM HD lineup, but I'm very happy with my '18 GMC HD so far.
I'll upgrade soon to the latest gen. Waiting on the '22 (or '23?) release in order to get an updated interior. GM pickups are anticipated to receive the latest Tahoe/Suburban hand-me-down bits. Looks to be promising.

The new tranny in the GMs is an "Allison" in name only. It is essentially the same transmission as Ford is using in their Superduties...so should the Ford tranny be called an "Allison" also?
That being said, it is a good transmission, being that it is new and with 10 forward speeds. Not many problems being reported.
