I've seen it done a few times. Maybe 5-6 in the last 10 years. Most of the time I can tell they're overloaded. In fact one time I passed a Tundra towing the exact same 5th wheel I had. A 2013 Northwood Fox Mountain 235. My pin was 1800 lbs and the 5er was around 9,000 loaded. Not saying that the Tundra guy loaded up like I did but when I went by him he had two hands firmly on the wheel. BTW I was not towing my 5er at that time.
I towed mine with a Ram 2500 CC LB 4x4 CTD and it was hands down the best towing combo I've had. It was so relaxed that in an emergency I'd have no issue with my wife taking the wheel.
It's really tough to tow most 1/2 ton rated 5th wheels with a Tundra. Beside Ram, Tundra's have some of the lowest payload ratings of 1/2 ton trucks.
If I ere to tow at max I'd much rather do it with a 5th wheel. Towing at max with a travel trailer is no fun as the TT will be pushing the truck around way way more than a 5er would.
Main thing is to look at your trucks door sticker for the maximum passenger and cargo weight sticker. The start working back from there. Remember no one tows an empty trailer and internet weights are always on the low side.

I tried to look up the axle weight rating but gave up. I could not find it. That, and the OP really needs to look at that door jam sticker for occupant and cargo capacity.

Probably the only fifth wheel I would consider pulling with a 1/2 ton would be a Scamp or Casita.

I’ve never owned a 5th wheel trailer. So any info would be appreciated.
Thank you.

The overwhelming advice has been your TV is a bad match for the the type of camper you would like! Check out the Escape 5.0
https://escapetrailer.com/the-5-0-escape
This little fifthwheel is about as close as you will probably get to adequately matching your TV. Make no mistake you will still wish you had a different engine and transmission.
Wish you well in retirement.

Yes you can probably tow the above 5th wheel
Here is one that a 1/2 ton on steroids can tow. Listen to what he says ' my half ton won't be towing this but some 1/2 tons can tow it'. This is probably more what you are thinking about.

The Escape 5.0 is a tandem axle 5th wheel trailer that was designed to be towed by a standard half-ton
pickup truck.

Nice little trailer.

There are 1/2 ton trucks with about 2,000 lbs of payload. I have seen a F-150 with just over 2,000 lbs and there are GM trucks with about the same. Payload is key.
Again you need a truck with a higher occupant and cargo payload. For a truck towing the Space Shuttle the Tundra does not have much payload.

My Silverado 1500 LT has a 1924 pound payload.

Not a chance with the size you want.
Buy your rig first then look for an appropriately sized tow vehicle.

I have known people that tow 30' bumper pull travel trailers with a Tundra because they are geared low and the motor is a good one but no Tundra has very much payload. that is where they lack. those escape trailers dont have slides so not a contender for me.

Cougar "half ton" series is the biggest misnomer ever. 1450 lbs dry tongue weight makes this a 3/4 ton trailer. The Escape would work with a Tundra if you're stuck on that size tow vehicle.

There has never been a Casita 5th wheel. The Scamp 19 is a sorta 5th wheel - not the standard hitch. Escape makes a 21' 5500 pound gross weight 5th wheel, and there are some used Bigfoot 5th wheels that can be safely pulled with a Tundra, but I agree that any 30' 5th wheel will quickly overload any 1/2 ton truck.

No. We pull a 22' travel trailer with a 5.7 liter Tundra, and it handles it pretty well in and around Arkansas, but that's only about 6000 pounds. A 30' 5th wheel in the Rockies? Sorry, but I don't think there's any way.
