Trailer Disconnect message

I have a new 2021 Ford F150 and my TT is a 2021.5 GeoPro 19fbs. When I connect my GeoPro to the truck and drive about 5 miles I get a message, Trailer Disconnected. My trailer lights and trailer brakes still work. I took the F150 to the Ford dealer and they said that there were no issues. We have set up the TT to the trucks system. Any ideas?

Doesn’t sound right. Sure you’ve got the trailer connector in all the way? Maybe there is a loose wire on the truck or trailer side of the connector.

Check ground. That's probably 99% of all power issues I see. You may have lights but then the first time you use the trailer brakes "BAM" you get that message.

Wait, you brought the truck and trailer to the dealer who said that there were no issues? Did the message displayed?

Welcome to the forum. Sorry I can't help as we travel in a Motorhome.

You are joining a good group of friends here with good information to share. Read the various threads here and ask questions as they come up or add information if you can.

Good luck and enjoy the adventure!

When I had intermittent issues similar to yours I discovered a loose ground wire on the trailer. The wire bundle looked good until I wiggled it and the ground wire slipped out of the wire nut.

I had the same issue with my 2015 F150 pulling a 12ft utility trailer. Dealership said no issue with factory controller. Only way to check was to take in the trailer for them to diagnose. Too much trouble. I bought an aftermarket brake controller and used that without any further issues. I have since replaced my F150 with a 2021 F250 and have not had any issues towing the same trailer.

When setting up the F250 trailer settings, I started to think about one of the options. You can change the default brake signal to higher. Without proof, I think maybe the F150 was not sending enough electrical signal to the trailer brakes???

I have this same issue when towing my 2020 Ford Expedition with my F550 based motorhome. When I do not have the headlights turned on in the motorhome, everything is fine. When the headlights are on, I get a “Trailer Disconnected” message every time I use the brakes. Once I let off the brakes, I get a “Trailer Connected” message. We replaced the 7 Pin on the motorhome but no improvement. We do not have the same issue when towing our motorcycle trailer so I believe the issue lies with the Expedition but to this point, the solution has been elusive.

Same issue on my 2022 Ram, did not have that problem with my previous GMC. Its irritating but its also right that the trailer brakes are disconnected as they do not always work. Going to track every wire on the trailer before i tow it again.

My 2019 F-250 behaved in a similar manner the very first time out with the trailer. While researching the issue I came across some posts on another forum detailing moisture-related issues with some of the wire harness connectors behind the rear bumper. After disconnecting every connector I could find and filling it with dielectric grease the problem disappeared. I haven't had it reoccur since then.
