trailer towing question

Pulling a 30ft Keystone Cougar ultralight with a 2016 Ford F150 with 3.5l twin turbo eco boost towing 9,000lbs. Is it the length or weight or both if it whips in the wind if more than 14mph wind. If not the length or weight could it be the brand load level/sway hitch and if so what is the best one to buy.

Hard to say. But do you have one of those racks on the back of the trailer that people use for generators or whatever?

It could be an incorrectly set up hitch, check your anti-sway. or improper weight distribution inside the trailer (too heavy behind the wheels).
If you post your hitch setup, someone here will have the knowledge.

Load it up ready to go camping. Go to the nearest scale and weight the thing. If possible get a stand alone hitch weight. You need to do this to rule out a too light hitch weight.

It is both the length and weight of the trailer, compared to the length and weight of the truck. You are a bit overloaded pulling that trailer with a 1/2 ton truck. Yes, you can stop the sway with a sway control hitch but that will not make you any safer. You need a bigger truck if you want to tow at highway speeds.

Make sure you have adequate tongue weight (12-15%). A Propride or Hensley will help but ultimately you're probably way overloaded......"ultralight" indeed....

I think no matter what you do you will still be over weight. A 9,000lb trailer should be towed with a bigger truck. The trailer you are towing with a 154" wheelbase truck is to big and heavy. It is as simple as that. Your only option is to slow down and hope other drivers don't run you over.

Most likely 148" wheelbase but could be a longbed.

You should know what your trailer weighs.
Not what's on the sticker.. I've found most
So called "ultralights" short you on carrying capacity..
You should also know what the payload of your truck is..Do some research ..Do go find a cat scale and get it weighed..I think you'll find it's just a case of the tail wagging the dog.
The Hensley arrow or the pro pride are good hitches.. A 1 ton pickup is a better tow vehicle.

9000# is to much for a 1/2 ton even for the so called Eco Boost i bet it really mones and grones up a hill. unless it has some low rear gears.

It's not too much weight for the engine at all. It's too much weight for the size and weight of the pickup.
