Trucks in the southeast beware - love bugs are out

I just drove my truck 15 miles north the back on A1A. I hit 100's of love bugs. I know to get these bug guts off the paint asap. I saw a few trucks towing trailers and 5th wheels.

I feel sorry for anyone towing through love bugs as those things are nasty and it takes elbow grease to get them off. I just spent 1.5 hours on just my truck but I also cleaned off tar and other scuffs and bugs.

Also I was lucky as I had a good coat of wax on my truck and mirrors so the love bug guts came off easier.

Anyone in the southeast knows how bad love bugs can be...ugh

We did a trip from Vero to Rainbow Springs Campground and back and I think it took me about 4 hours to scrub off all the bugs. Every roof vent, window frame,
Speaker etc was plastered with them.

I drive a lot for work too and have to scrub them off every day.

I hate their guts.

Coming south Fla to North Fla isn't any better, I hit 1000's... don't have elbow grease, blew out right bicep when picking up pig(26lbs) in to MH. That bug windshield washer fluid cuts through them. PITA

Water and dryer fabric softener sheets. We like Snuggle. Takes them off like butter. I keep a box in the truck this time of year and can clean them off at any gas station. Tuffr is right, remove ASAP as the acid is horrible on the clear coat. I never leave them on overnight.

I heard lots of things to try like wet dryer sheets comes to mind. I will try the bug washer fluid or maybe the Rain-ex washer fluid.

I was using Turtle Wax Spray Cleaner Wax. It was working really well. Those guts get into every nook and cranny.

The worse love bugs I ever ran into was in South George on I95 just a few years go. I could hear them hitting the truck. I pulled off at a fruit stand to clean off the windshield I bought the best peaches I had in a long time. Georgia can sure grow good [emoji527]'s.

One other time on my honeymoon near Daytona Beach in a rental car. I cleaned the windshield as I needed to see but I did not clean the grill nor hood.

Those yellow(ish) guts on a windshield will smear a little but will not come off with the wipers.

Good luck staying out of the love bug swarms.

Always had best luck by washing right away. At home during this season, I keep the pressure washer on the porch and fire it off right away. The fabric dryer sheets do work very well too. Wash right away is the key to it.

Seems there is a triple whammy.

1. You always hit two bugs at the same time.

2. Their yellow guts will eat paint

3. The Southern Sun bakes the guts fast.

If I am traveling north it is a day or two before I can clean them off. I always wax the front of the truck extra good during love bug season.

Lucky for me so far, never got them on the trailer. I have seen them on Motorhomes and 5th wheels at the RV Resort where I used to stay.

I hear its a cicada season up north. I dont know which is worse, a cicada to the throat on the bike hurts like hell. A little bit of diesel fuel in a bucket will take nearly anything off.

I drive a lot for work and my truck looks about like that Disney bus every day. It’s getting really old coming home every day and scrubbing guts.
This is the worst I’ve seen them in 50 years I think.
