I guess it all depends on how you use your truck.

I bought a hitch with a 3 way rotating ball. I think it has been take out of the receiver a total of about 6 times in 5 years.

The day you walk into that hitch you will be taking it out every time you are done with it. LOL

No way would I weld the 2" adapter to my 2.5" receiver. Just tack something on the adapter so it only goes in so far.
Thats what Ram did for me.

I hated that stupid sleeve. I bought 2.5" stingers for all my hitches, works so much better and rated for more towing capacity. Just get rid of the sleeve.

I've tack welded the sleeve to the receiver on two trucks I've owned and never had an issue. I just slid the reducer into the receiver, installed the pin for alignment and tacked a 1/4" to 3/8" weld. If I ever need the 2 1/2" receiver I can cut the tack, remove the reducer and continue to march.
