Capitalism

Capitalism is not driven by freedom. Capitalism is driven by making money. Selling things with less options usually means less overhead because of less storage space needed. If you have ever taken a tour of an assembly plant you might wonder how they manage to keep all those parts straight.

You choice is to buy what is offered or not just like everything else in this world... people whine about nothing today.

These diesel trucks do not need anymore gear to tow rated weight. Now if your getting a gas truck...bring reading material towing in the Rockies.

Don't like it either change the gears after you buy or buy elsewhere. Its a very easy simple decision to make.

That's because they know that anything you want to tow that requires or at least would benefit from a lower gear ratio should be towed with a dually - and they're right!

I have a truck with 4:30 axles and I’m just under 2k at 60. Barely revving. I get 25% better mileage than I did with my 5.4 v8 and 3:73. Better mileage while towing and around city. The only downside is when you are droning down the freeway not towing anything. I never do that so I guess I don’t have a downside.

Extended Cab 8'box

As truck campers we have enjoyed extended cab long box trucks for over 20 years. Window shopping for a new F350 reveals Ford only makes a short box extended cab now. Do we saw off the camper? Do we add ten feet to our turning radius? Do we go back to a single cab? I will never buy Chevy or Dodge so the last alternative is to keep our 2017 forever. Sometimes I really hate change.

I know some would like the option to choose, but the truck has way more low end grunt than older trucks that had 4.10 gears or lower, and transmissions that had first gear ratios in the mid 2's. My 2019 6.7 has 3.55's with the 6R140 transmission (3.97 first gear), and it gets a 14k 5th wheel moving with no problem at all. In fact there are times I wish my truck had the other ratio offered by Ford of 3.31. But depending on certain packages that are ordered on the truck such as the Camper Package or 20" wheels, it forces the truck gears to be 3.55.
But the 4:10 would give better hold back on downhills when you are using the upper gears, don’t just fixate on the low gear idea. The differential works with all the gears in the transmission. I have been in the truck repair business and fleet truck specifications for over 50 years.

Now O'm really pissed - Ford is telling me that I can't get the power-deployable running boards on my Tremor! That's age discrimination! The fixed ones are a few inches higher!

Each engine transmission combination requires complete EPA certification. No cheap. Try looking for a manual transmission for. Gota be able to afford “freedom to chose”

Their site shows that you can still get a Supercab long box.

Gammel,
Consider getting the limited slip diff. I test drove an F250 supercrew w/ short bed last week that had an open diff and the roads were wet. Anything more than light throttle caused the rear tire to spin, even driving along at 40 mph.

Not sure if others have noticed this and can chime in.

There was a video from Haggerty - Barn Find Hunter about a Ford Station wagon with a 4 speed manual. The story was the buyer had to write to a Ford VP (Lee Iacocca) for special approval to allow production of that car. The car was shown as “1 of 1” for that year.
Perhaps this could happen again. If it does keep us posted. Of course, gum-mint rules differ now and could be more invasive.

Freedom to choose what is offered.

I'm not fixated on anything, only giving an answer to the OP as to why Ford only offers the gearing it does for the 6.7 SRW trucks. Yes, 4.10 gears will give advantages over the higher geared trucks in certain situations, but the 3.55 gears along with the newer 6 and 10 speed transmissions can and will provide more than enough power and exhaust braking for what the truck is rated for, and for what you should be towing with a SRW truck. Plus you have great highway cruising gears empty with the 3.31 or 3.55 gears. Ford apparently believes this as they do offer 4.10 and lower gears, you just have to get a Dually to get them. If someone wants lower gears than what the factory provides, then they have the option to re-gear to the gears they want. Unfortunately there is a cost for the re-gear.
