Buy quality oil and do your oil changes(and filters) in a timely fashion, you should not need any oil additives.

Use a quality oil of the correct weight and class and you don't need anything else

The best oil additive, if there is no particular problem you are trying to treat, is fresh oil, as in get it changed.
Modern oil is amazing.
Additives are a waste of money.

Just oil. Changed regularly. No additives needed or desired. I have used Mobile 1 full synthetic in all gas engines for many years.

None.
Oil additives are snake oil. And some are actually detrimental to your engine and transmission.
Use a quality engine or transmission oil, change it when you’re supposed to, and your engine and transmission will live, long happy lives.

Oil additives - I used them all. I was a sucker. Oh well, live and learn.
They are a waste of money. Oil today is much better than oil 20 years ago. Agree, change the oil. If this is a used vehicle change the oil, drive 2,000 miles then change it again.

I totally agree with all the above GREAT advice. Save your $$$$, change your oil on schedule and use a good quality oil and you'll be doing everything you need to do to take care of your high mileage engine!!!!!

I agree.. 👍
But amazed to see an oil question thread without disagreement ?
Maybe it depends on whether the oil is Dyno or Syn ? 😁

Put in a bottle of seafoam. It's amazing how many things it fixes including gray hair.

1/ have the oil lab-tested, 500 miles after a fresh change. 2/ if tested ok, consider to install a bypass filter.

You just did the best thing, the oils labeled "high mileage" have more anti-wear additives that will better protect any engine of any mileage.

Never been a believe in all the additives, called 'em all Snake Oil..... But....
There's one out there made a believer out of me and that's Lucas Oil Stabilizer. It does everything it says it does. I don't recommend it in everything, but if you have a well worn engine you're trying to squeeze some more time and use out of, it's the ticket.
Case 1:
My 70's diesel tractor. Would use a gallon of oil every so many hours, lots of blow by, but most consumption was lost out of the crankcase vent tube on hard left turns. Adding Lucas cut my oil consumption greatly, reduced the blow by and eliminated the oil loss from the vent tube entirely. Has extended the life of the engine by many years.
Case 2:
My 1973 Mustang, 302 V8, 150K miles. We took this car on the Hot Rod Power Tour in 2016. The trip would encompass over 2500 miles in 8 days. When we left out the car had a fresh oil change, but we were using a quart every 200 miles. At the third add, I put in a quart of Lucas instead of oil and we went 1,000 miles before adding the next quart of oil.
Case 3:
1972 Ranchero, 351C, 90K miles. We pulled an old Ranchero out of a Kansas barn in pieces, been there for 26 years, put it back together and headed out 3,000 miles on Hot Rod Power Tour 2017. Was using a quart of oil every 90 miles when we left. After we put the Lucas in, it reduced consumption to about a quart every 500 miles.
Lucas made a believer out of me, but I only use it in specific cases of tired worn engines.
