Start by going to the manufacturers web site. They will post all their specifications there.

Dont know if they still do, but Trailer Life used to publish ratings for each years vehicles. That would be a good starting point.

Do not go by just the max tow ratings. Single rear wheel trucks are usually limited on 5th wheel towing by the payload capacity. A 5er will typically have a loaded pin weight that is around 20% of the trailer GVWR. Ignore dry and brochure weights.

I would use Google and search of 'generation of xxxxxxx' where xxxxxxx equal truck information.
Like google generations of Ram 2500.
You will need to piece together the information. Or you can just ask here if you know what you want to tow.
Like if you wanted to tow a 17,000lb 5th wheel the general consensus would be a Dually of your choice, Ram, Ford or Chevy diesel.
If you want to tow a 6,000 lb travel trailer the general consensus would be a 150/1500 series truck of your choice.
A boat of flatbed trailers could also be given a reasonable recommended truck to tow it.

These are what we call the holy grail of Ford/GM/Ram weight specs.
GM even has a weights calculator on their website that gives axle weights from standard equipment and options on a individual truck. Neat feature.
It will take you a while to find your way around each website.
