Which B&W companion to get
Will be getting a Ram 3500 DRW with the in bed tow package. So i have already decided on the companion hitch but is there any advantage of one (goose ball type) over the other (puck system)?
The goose ball type seems a bit smaller in size so it might give me more room to put things in the bed while towing. And it is a little bit cheaper in price.
If it makes any difference our next trailer will be in the 18,000lb GVWR range.

the limiting factor of the B&W is pin weight. 18000 gvw your looking at 3500 or better pin weight.

I just bought a new Companion and installed it yesterday. I'm getting a new 5ver that has a GVWR of 19K and I wanted a hitch that would be well over the weight of the trailer, so I bought the Companion 25K non slider that attached to the Ford puck system. It's heavy for sure, almost 160 lbs, but it comes apart into the two separate pieces...the base and the hitch head, so it's pretty manageable to lift out if needed.

I don't believe the gooseball version will work with the Ram Factory fifth wheel prep. My understanding is that the hitch goes into the shaft, not attaches to the gooseneck ball. The B&W shaft is square and designed for the B&W turnover ball, while the RAM factory mount is for a round shaft that mounts differently.
I have the Puck Mount B&W and it's a great hitch. That said, mine is simply sitting in the garage collecting dust as I switched to a Reese Goosebox. It replaces the pin box on the 5er and converts it to a gooseneck without voiding the warranty if you have a lippert frame. With it, you don't need the hitch, plus you get the same airbag/shock absorber advantages of an air ride type pin box.

You need to get the B&W with he puck attachments for a direct fit to you truck with the factory prep. I used to have one but I wanted to change to an air ride. After a bunch of research I changed my Roto Flex pin box to a Reese Goose Box, about the same price as a B&W Companion for your truck, and bought a B&W gooseneck ball kit. I now have air ride for the camper and I only need to remove the gooseneck ball and safety chain anchors to have the whole be available.
