I am considering a ford 150 with 3.5 ecoboost v6 (10,700 lb. tow capacity) and towing a 7000 dry weight trailer. Thoughts?
thanks in advance
More important info than weight is size and what you plan to do with it. If you're talking about a 22 foot long trailer and will only be taking it out a few times a year on the weekends to a state park half an hour from your house, you'll be fine with that truck. If you're talking about a 40 foot ultralight and plan to make a few cross country trips a year, you will need a significantly bigger truck.

My vehicle is a 2020 Silverado 1500 with a max towing package (Max Tow Capacity of 12,000 with a payload of 2060). The wife wouldn't allow a bigger truck before anyone asks!

Anyways, I'm looking at a trailer that is 34'3" with a dry weight of 7544 (GVWR 9645).

While I know I will be within my trucks tow and payload capacity I want to know if there's anything else I need to think of to ensure I'm not getting too much trailer.

Would you tow this combo?
OP I'll repost your question as someone hijacked your thread.

Very few folks know what the OP 2020 1500 chevy specs are.
The NHT (tow package) has a 7600 GVWR and 4300 rawr good for 2000+ lb in the bed payloads.
This model chevy has the new 10 speed tranny and 3.42 gears with the 6.2 engine that has 420 hp and 460 torque .

The truck won't have any issues towing a trailer that size.
Of course a 8k max weight trailer would tow easier....or a 7k more easier.....or a 5k trailer easier...etc/etc.

My neighbor lady just bought a 2020 GMC with the same package.
She pulls a 28' 12k cargo trailer to work every day (140-180 miles a day) depending on where her next job is. She installs seamless gutters on houses.
Her previous truck was a 3500 srw Dodge/Cummins and with 365k miles ...it was needing repairs more often.

She says the 6.2 with 420 hp out accelerates the Cummins pulling the same trailer and with 460 torque has plenty of grunt in the hills for that size trailer.

I would not tow it. Regardless of what grill is on the 3500/2500 its still nearly the same size as a 1/2 ton. If youre starting from scratch just order the bigger truck, you wont notice any difference aside from ride. I honestly think these new tow ratings are way optimistic. I just saw a thread about 30k behind a 3500 series dodge. If youre pulling 30k, you need medium duty or bigger, i dont care what the mfr says.

As far as new tow ratings vs old, my 03 dually still has more axle rating than any of the new trucks except the duallys. In general, it tows as well as the newer hd trucks, just slower. Its not putting 1000 ftlbs out, so thats to be expected. Even with specs taken into consideration, id tow with an older "bigger" truck than a newer "smaller" truck.

That's a lot of weight and windage to haul from the bumper of a 1/2 ton. I know the new 1/2 tons are stout (my dad just bought one), but don't be too shocked when it isn't as much truck as you thought it was towing a big long sail in a cross wind.

My free advice would be to get a larger truck or a smaller trailer.

One of those only weighs about 19kips.

According to some people you can't tow anything heaver than the weight of the TV.

Balance is key.

As is speed.

For the op the issue will be one of that 34ft trailer throwing the truck around. Tail wagging the dog. You’ll need a great WD hitch with good anti sway. Hopefully you plan short trips.

Just my opinion here also, but not enough truck. That trailer will wag your dog, especially on the interstate at speed and with any wind and semi traffic. You can analyze it all 6 ways from Sunday and make yourself believe you CAN do it, but I'll tell you that once we went to our 3/4 ton we began to enjoy travel again. Huge difference and much safer to boot.
